As a school we want to make connections, make sure our families feel connection. That begins with having open communication at the school level with appropriate staff.
Please know we are here for you 🐾
Please take a moment to read the message below the picture from Dr. Jeff Fastnacht, BPS Superintendent.

I use AI. I find it incredibly helpful, and I believe it can make us better and more efficient at what we do.

But I’ve noticed something lately that concerns me.

We are seeing more parent emails that appear to be AI-assisted, sometimes four or five pages long, laying out concerns, arguments, questions, and requests for detailed written responses. In some cases, there is also a reluctance to simply pick up the phone or sit down together and talk.

That worries me, not because AI was used, but because of what we may lose when it replaces conversation.

Schools are human organizations. Parenting is human. Teaching is human. Relationships are built through conversation, where we can ask a question, hear tone, clarify a misunderstanding, listen to another perspective, and sometimes discover that what felt like a major conflict in writing can be worked through in a 15-minute conversation.

Use AI to organize your thoughts. Use it to help you communicate clearly. I certainly do.

But let’s be careful that technology designed to help us communicate doesn’t actually keep us from communicating with one another.

Sometimes the best response to a five-page email is still: “Can we sit down and talk?”

Our kids benefit when the adults in their lives can do exactly that.

Play & SpeAACk! Communication Station ❤️

Huge shout-out to our very own Anjanette Schlafmann for organizing, fundraising, and spearheading the install of communication stations on BPS playgrounds. When you find one, stop by and take a look!

Solheim was the 1st to install Communication Stations using AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) on our school playground!🐾💙🐾
These communication stations foster inclusion, empathy, and accessibility, turning playgrounds into spaces where every child is heard. Your donation will directly support the purchase and installation of these vital tools, creating a more inclusive community—one playground at a time. Let’s build a world where every voice matters.

Thank you to our Sponsors!!! 💙We are feeling so grateful and appreciative 💙

🐾👫🚴‍♂️If your child(ren) walk or bike to/from school, please feel free to have them stop by the office to pick up a free vest. Families whose student is not currently listed as a walker or biker but would like to receive a vest are encouraged to contact their school secretary.

🧡Thanks to the generous support of Jeff White and Capital Real Estate Partners, Bravera Bank, and The Title Team, more than 1,200 safety vests have been provided for BPS elementary students.

🧡The Glow & Go program is a great example of what can happen when local businesses and our schools work together to support students in simple, meaningful ways.
