Deepest Gratitude for a Resounding Success!

On behalf of United Tribes Technical College, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make our annual Events Week an extraordinary success.

Bringing together the UTTC International Powwow, Tribal Leaders Summit, LEGENDS Softball Tournament, UTTC Golf Tournament, Thunderbird Run, and High School Basketball Tournament is a monumental achievement—and truly takes a village.

To our UTTC Campus Community—our tireless Facilities and Security crews, staff, faculty, and inspiring student volunteers—thank you! You worked long hours, managed countless logistics, and welcomed our guests with a spirit of hospitality that represented our college with tremendous pride.

We are equally grateful to our external partners. A special thank you to the Great Plains Tribal Leaders’ Health Board for standing alongside us as a valued cultural and governmental partner and supporting our shared commitment to tribal sovereignty and community wellness.

We also extend our profound appreciation to the external partners, sponsors, and donors whose generous contributions helped make these events possible. Your support allowed us to welcome thousands of relatives, dancers, athletes, and leaders from across the nation to our campus.

Most importantly, your hard work, collaboration, and financial support serve a lasting purpose. Proceeds from these events directly support UTTC student scholarships, helping create opportunities and clear pathways for the next generation of leaders in Indian Country.

Thank you for your exceptional generosity, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the mission of United Tribes Technical College.

With deep respect and gratitude,

Russ McDonald
President
United Tribes Technical College

TOTALLY TRIBES' TUESDAY - 1985

In September 1985, the Miss Indian America pageant was held at UTTC for the first time in conjunction with the International Powwow. Miss Indian America originated in 1953 in Sheridan, WY and was part of the All American Indian Days Festival. Miss Indian America ran at UTTC until 1989 and was replaced by the Miss Indian Nations pageant in 1991.

1985's Miss Indian America ### was Jorja Frances Oberly. She is a member of the Osage-Commanche-Nez Perce nations and is from Tahlequah, Oklahoma. "The past year has provided me an opportunity I wish everyone could experience. The Indian people I met and visited each contributed to the success of my year. The homeland of each tribe was important to them whether it was the hills of North Carolina, the plains of Kansas, or the beautiful valley of the Yakimas. It has always been important to us to have an area we can call 'ours'; Sioux Country, Nez Perce County - and each tribe showed that need and it's importance. Much of the efforts of tribal leadership goes to the protection of that land and other treaty rights."
