This was posted as a community awareness currently targeting the Williston area salons, but could easily start targeting areas throughout ND. If you find yourself in this situation, stop communication and contact your local law enforcement.
The Williston Police Department is alerting the community and local businesses to a potential scam targeting area salons.
We have received information that an individual is calling legitimate salons in our area requesting waxing services for their minor daughter. The caller reportedly offers a large amount of money for the service. The caller continued communication via text message and has, in at least one instance, texted a photo of a juvenile.
⚠️ This behavior is consistent with known sextortion scams.
In similar scams, the suspect will later send an inappropriate image and attempt to intimidate the recipient by claiming they are now in possession of an explicit image of a minor. The scammer then demands money, threatening arrest, exposure, or legal consequences if payment is not made. Please remember:
❗ Do not engage further with the caller.
❗ Do not send money.
❗ Do not forward or save any explicit images.
❗ Report the incident to local law enforcement immediately.
These scams are designed to create panic and pressure victims into quick payments. If you or your business receives a similar call or message, please contact Sergeant Detective Hendricks at 701.577.1212, so we can document the incident and assist as needed.
Please share this information with other business owners in our community. Staying informed is the best defense.
