We're thrilled to recap an unforgettable September General Body Meeting! 🌟 Brittni Tucker, Director of Information Technology for Birmingham City Schools, inspired us with her vision for empowering students through innovative tech solutions. We're eager to see the lasting impact she'll have on our community's future leaders! 🚀 We also celebrated the swearing in of our dynamic new leadership team for 2026-2028: Carlos Carter - President, Grace Etheridge - Vice President, Deyon Jones - 2nd Vice President, Evelyn Hayes - Secretary, Harriet James - Treasurer, and Charles McFarland - Board Member. (Special shoutout to Shakeitha Tatum - Assistant Secretary, and Traci Chapman - Board Member, not pictured.) We're confident that together, we'll drive meaningful change and continue to uplift the children in our community. 💪

Kiwanis Club of Vulcan is pleased to have Brittni R. Tucker as guest speaker for our September General Body Meeting. Ms. Tucker is Director of Information Technology for Birmingham City Schools, where she leads technology operations for 43 schools serving approximately 20,000 students and 2,500 employees. She brings more than 14 years of IT leadership across higher education, with experience spanning database administration, enterprise systems, cybersecurity, and AI governance. Brittni holds a bachelor's degree in English from UAB and a Master of Public Administration from Troy University, and she is currently pursuing a Doctor of Technology at Purdue University, where her research focuses on equitable AI implementation in under-resourced K-12 school districts. She was recently named a 2026 Birmingham Business Journal Women to Watch honoree and selected for the 2026-27 Alabama Leaders in Educational Technology CTO Academy. Brittni serves on the board of the UAB National Alumni Society and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, where she has led technology and community service initiatives at the chapter, regional, and national levels, most recently managing technology for events at the sorority's 2026 national conference. Outside of work she plays three different clarinets, mentors college students, and loves to visit beaches, from the Gulf Coast to those requiring a passport, the furthest so far being Dubai.

The Kiwanis Club of Vulcan is proud to celebrate the success of our 4th Annual Sips & Scholarships Juneteenth Brunch!

From the fellowship and laughter to the inspiring conversations and unforgettable moments, this event was a true reflection of what can happen when a community comes together for a greater purpose.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, volunteered, purchased tickets, and supported this event. Because of your generosity, we are one step closer to providing scholarships that will help local students pursue their educational dreams.

A special thank you to our Event Chair, Melvin Love, for his outstanding leadership and dedication in bringing this vision to life. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Uriah Williams and JET Wealth Management for their generous sponsorship, invaluable support, and for helping welcome special guest Senator Doug Jones and members of his party.

The Kiwanis Club of Vulcan is happy to have Crystal Mullen-Johnson as speaker of our upcoming General Body Meeting on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Alabama Power Headquarters.

Crystal Mullen-Johnson, LICSW-PIP, RPT, is the CEO and Founder of Strive Counseling Services, LLC, with locations in Birmingham and Demopolis, Alabama. With over 20 years of experience in the mental health field, she is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Private Independent Practitioner, and Registered Play Therapist. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work from Alabama A&M University. Crystal also serves as Founder and President of Nurture of Alabama, Inc., a nonprofit expanding access to counseling and support services for underserved communities. She is the author of 21 Day Journey to Strive for a Healthier You and has been featured in The Birmingham Times, About Town Magazine, Birmingham Business Journal, and AL.com. A recognized speaker and civic leader, Crystal is committed to building healthier, more resilient communities through mental health advocacy. She was selected to be in Leadership Birmingham 2026 class.
