If you are traveling abroad with children, make sure you have the proper documents. Some countries have strict requirements for traveling with minors, including requiring parents to show evidence of their relationship to the child when entering or departing the country. Some also require a notarized consent letter if only one parent is traveling. Review the info page for your destination at travel.state.gov/destination to check the requirements before you go.

Once you receive your U.S. passport, don’t forget to sign it!

Adult passports (age 16 and up): You must sign your full name in blue or black ink inside your passport.

Child passports (under age 16): A parent should print the child's full name on the signature line. The parent should also sign their name next to the printed name of their child and note their relationship to the child, such as mother, father, or guardian.

Summertime is the right time to apply for a passport, the U.S. Postal Service says.

On Saturday, July 18, the Birmingham Main Post Office, located at 351 24th St. North, will hold a passport fair. No appointments will be needed to apply for a passport.
