JCEMA Transitions to Statewide "Rave ALERT" System

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency (JCEMA) has officially transitioned its emergency notification platform from CivicPlus to Alabama’s new statewide mass notification system, Rave ALERT with Smart911. This enhanced platform will continue providing critical emergency alerts, weather warnings, and local notifications to help keep Jefferson County residents informed, safe, and prepared. Residents will experience no loss in functionality with the new system.

The Rave ALERT system went live on September 1, 2026, following the retirement of the previous system on August 31st. This upgrade is made possible through a State of Alabama initiative that grants all counties access to a unified notification platform. The system supports communication from local municipalities, Jefferson County EMA, and the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), ensuring consistent and reliable information delivery to the public.

Information for Residents:
• Previous Subscribers to JeffCoALerts: Residents previously registered with CivicPlus have been automatically migrated to the new Rave ALERT platform. You will continue receiving Tornado Warnings as before. However, we strongly encouraged users to review their account details to ensure their address, location settings, and notification preferences are accurate. Additional weather watches or warnings can be added at any time by updating your account settings.

• Account Updates & New Sign Ups: Active subscribers should log in using the link below to verify contact information and customize notification preferences. Use your email address as the username, then select “Forgot Password” set your new account credentials.
New users may also register through the same link, by selecting “Sign Up Now.”
This part of the system is provided through Rave’s Smart911 platform, which also offers optional features that integrate with certain local 9-1-1 centers.

• Additional Options: As part of Alabama’s new statewide system, users can now choose to receive alerts from the state, as well as from other counties and local jurisdictions. Simply opt into the locations and alert types you want and select the notification methods that work best for you.

• Identifying Alerts: Emergency notifications are available via the following methods:
o Email: [email protected] for email notifications
o Phone: Voice calls will display as 205-254-2505.
o Text: Alerts may come from one of the following short codes: 226787, 67283, 78015, or 77295.
o Residents are encouraged to save these contacts to prevent messages from being filtered as spam.

Last night, EMA CERT Coordinator Ed Jones and Director Jim Coker presented the Homewood Fire Department with a certificate of appreciation for their role and cooperation in teaching the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program in Homewood. We would also like to thank the Emergency/Disaster Services-Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama for their role in making this class possible.

This marked the first ever CERT class held in Homewood and, to our knowledge, the first CERT class taught in Spanish in the Southeast.

Thank you to the Homewood Fire Department and the Emergency/Disaster Services-Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama for their commitment in helping better prepare our communities!
