Avondale Library - Birmingham Public Library System

Avondale Library - Birmingham Public Library System Avondale Regional Library is part of the Birmingham Alabama Public Library system In 2005, the library closed again for renovations and refurbishing.

At the turn of the 20th century, Andrew Carnegie, the industrialist and philanthropist, donated $10,000 to the city of Avondale to build a library. The beautiful building lasted 50 years, at which time the City of Birmingham and the library board recognized the need for a new building. The new library was built in 1961 complete with air-conditioning and increased space. In 1982, the city used bond

s funds for an expansion and renovation that transformed Avondale into a regional branch for the southern area of the city. For nearly one hundred years, the Avondale Regional Library has served the Birmingham community. In this new millennium, the staff, the board and the administration are committed to expanding and improving this library’s excellent resources and services.

What happens when a curious kid gets lost in the jungle? A whole lot of fun! This summer, Birmingham Children’s Theatre is bringing The Jungle Book to life with Birmingham Public Libraries — for free!

Your family will be on the edge of your seats as Mowgli befriends Baloo the Bear and Bagheera the panther, outwits a gang of sneaky monkeys, and comes face-to-face with the fierce tiger, Shere Khan, in this fast-paced retelling of the classic Rudyard Kipling tales. It's a perfect outing for young adventurers — no tickets, no fuss, just great live theatre at your neighborhood library this June and July.

Performances are:
Saturday, June 20th at BPL Central Branch
Saturday, June 27th at Five Points West
Saturday, July 11th at Springville Road
Saturday, July 18th at Avondale Library
