Child hunger is closer than many people realize.

Across the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama’s 12-county service area, 20.5% of children face food insecurity. In Talladega County, that number is even higher at 26.4%.

Food insecurity means a child may not always know where their next meal is coming from. It can affect their health, their ability to focus in school, and their overall well-being.

At the Community Food Bank, we work alongside schools, community partners, donors, and volunteers to help provide food for children and families across central Alabama.

A sweet first delivery at our new warehouse!

We officially received our first delivery at the Community Food Bank’s new warehouse. This milestone represents more than food arriving at a new building. It marks the beginning of a new chapter in our work to serve neighbors facing hunger across central Alabama.

Every pallet, every box, and every item that comes through this space helps us move more food into the hands of our neighbors facing hunger.

We’re moving in two weeks! Our new address is 4336 Turin Drive, Bessemer, AL 35020.

We will be operational in our new home on Tuesday, June 30. Though our address is changing, our mission is not. We’re still here to feed neighbors facing hunger, and we’re excited for new opportunities to fulfill our mission.

Families are budgeting, cutting costs and stretching each paycheck. But sometimes, even that isn’t enough. SNAP helps families stay nourished and keeps communities strong.

Yet recent changes to the program may impact people’s access to SNAP in Alabama. Tell Congress: Support a 2-year delay in the SNAP cost shift so families can continue receiving reliable food assistance without disruption.

Summer is upon us, and we're kicking off our summer feeding program this month, continuing our commitment to feeding children during summer break. This year, we've expanded from 10 to 16 distribution sites across central Alabama. These distributions provide families with shelf-stable items, a bag of easy-to-access snacks, frozen protein, and fresh fruit.

In May, 773 volunteers contributed 1,506 hours of service in our warehouse. We received 1,523,844 pounds of food and distributed 1,509,513 pounds across central Alabama, providing over 1,257,927 meals to our neighbors facing hunger.

Achieving the mission of the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama is a collaborative effort, and we can’t do it without you!

When school is out for the summer, many families lose access to the meals their children count on during the school year.

Through our summer feeding programs, the Community Food Bank provides food to children and their families during the summer months when school meals are unavailable. Distribution sites will have family meal boxes, snack packs, fresh produce, and frozen protein.

Families can find summer meal sites near them at feedingal.org/summer-meals.
