Continuing the conversation around , Tajahish Rowden reached a major life milestone when she successfully closed on her new home. After participating in the Housing Choice Voucher Program for 10 years, Ms. Rowden decided to pursue homeownership as a way to create long-term stability and build generational wealth for her children.

Her journey reflects determination, vision, and a strong commitment to financial independence. By transitioning from rental assistance to homeownership, Ms. Rowden has taken an important step toward creating a lasting foundation for her family’s future.

When asked what advice she would give to others considering homeownership, Ms. Rowden shared:

“Be inspired to gain financial freedom and independence.”

Today we held our Section 3 Job Fair at Smithfield Community Center. We want to thank all of our partners that participated in this occasion. We kicked off National Homeownership Month in a major way by celebrating Ms Blanche Wilder! Today we held a ribbon cutting at her brand new home in Birmingham as she is the first to buy a home under the 5H Living Legacy program at HABD. This is more than a ribbon cutting, this was a testimony of hard work, dedication, and a testimony of faith. This milestone was a just the beginning for so many good things to come. We want to thank Birmingham City Council District 8 Councilor Sonja Smith, Neighborhood Housing Services of Birmingham, INC, and Kimekia Holifield: First Horizon Mortgage NMLS #1842616 for being supporters, mentors, and walking Ms Wilder through this process. It's the finale to graduation season! Magic City YouthBuild celebrated its graduation this week in a phenomenal way. We are so proud of the graduates and the impactful work of this program! We thank everyone that has been involved with the success of these graduates. Your dedication has helped them achieve a life goal that seemed unattainable. The HABD team is so proud of you!

This week we held this year's first Partnership Meeting at Innovation Depot and we are so thankful for all of those who attended. There is no one agency that can do it all, but together we will. We are grateful for the potiential partners who were in attendance and the opportunity to strengthen the partnerships we already have. We can't wait to see you at the next one!
