Anchor Community Respite Ministry Anchor Community Respite Ministry provides fellowship and stimulation for people living with memory loss due to Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, or stroke.

The program also gives care partners a break each week to take care of life.

The Hotty Toddy cheering squad started our tailgating party early! The college football season has arrived and we celebrated with our own football toss, a devotional by Nancy, a lunch with delicious “tailgating” food, and school spirit/fight songs from some of our favorite Southern teams!

We had a fun Bowling Day today. 🎳 Our two teams, the Lucky Strikers and the Holy Bowlers finished up with an even tie which is pretty amazing! Everyone seemed to have a good time. For our white board activity, we talked about places you might go on a Date Night. After a wonderful lunch, we played balloon volleyball. We even had time for Poker Chip Trivia. We finished up our day singing hymns with Nancy. 🎶 Great day at Anchor!

Another great day enjoying a little golf! ⛳️ We divided into teams and had 3 shots to get a ball in the hole. The Devil Duffers beat the Precious Putters 13 to 12. For our white board activity we talked about things you might find on a golf course. Of course the b**r cart made the list! 🍺 After lunch we played volleyball. Don and Lynda joined us for Blue Songs! We wrapped up our day singing Happy Anniversary to Pat and a Charlie on their 61st anniversary!💖

What a special day at Anchor today! We made beautiful ornaments with dried flowers and tree cross sections. We also celebrated Dolly today through her music and her Appalachian roots. With gratitude for her music, her love of reading/books, her kindness to others, and her love for the mountains, we remember Dolly Parton (1946-2026). We will always love you!❤️

Today’s cooler weather put us in a Back to School mood! We put together 50 teacher emergency kits to give to our CASA preschool teachers…things like chocolate, tic tacs, Advil, nail files, anything a teacher might need throughout the day. We also labeled Goldfish crackers for Gina’s daughter’s first graders. We talked about school supplies we used to need “back in the day.” We also celebrated Bobbie Jo’s birthday. Another great day! 🏫 ✏️ 📝 🐟

Dirty Soda Day was lots of fun! Everyone was able to choose which drink to make and surprisingly these all tasted great! Big hit with everyone! 🥤 Thanks to Pastor Robert for sharing a devotion based on the book The Power of Good News. Good message for all of us. We enjoyed balloon volleyball and music (sweet songs) with Connie and Cindy. 🥤 🍹

Today at Anchor was truly FOR THE BIRDS!🦅 🐦
Our table activities centered around birds. We made heart-shaped bird feeders to take home for our backyard friends, and we sang songs about birds with Don and Lynda. When we made our whiteboard list of 20 things we see in our backyards, however, “birds” was not No. 1. You guessed it—“squirrels” edged out “birds” for the No. 1 spot! We also sang Happy Birthday to Gina and enjoyed delicious cake for dessert!🎂
