Congratulations Ava!

🎉 Congratulations to 5th grader Ava M.! 🎉

We are proud to share that Ava earned 2nd place in the Wisconsin State Firefighters Association Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest! 🚒🔥

Ava’s poster was selected and voted on by attendees at the WSFA State Convention in April after advancing from our local contest. She created her winning poster following a visit to the fire and EMS hall during Fire Prevention Week in October 2025, based on this year’s theme: “Charge Into Fire Safety: Lithium Battery Safety.” 🔋⚡

After being recognized as one of our local winners by the Friends of the BFCESD, Ava’s poster moved on to the state competition — where it earned this incredible recognition!

Please join us in congratulating Ava on this outstanding accomplishment! 👏🎨

Sunday’s Jon Sleik Memorial Golf Tournament brought just about everything Mother Nature had to offer — rain, wind, chilly temperatures, and maybe two whole seconds of sunshine.
But despite the less-than-ideal conditions, teams still showed up, golfed hard, laughed harder, and supported our mission in a tremendous way.

Without the support of this community, events like this simply would not be possible. Every golfer, sponsor, volunteer, donor, family member, and friend helped make this another successful fundraiser for Birchwood Four Corners Emergency Services District. Proceeds from this event will help support the remaining balance on our new ambulance, expected to arrive early next year. We can’t wait to tally the totals!

A special shoutout goes to one incredible group that raised over $30,000 on the course Sunday alone — an absolutely remarkable accomplishment and a true reflection of the generosity and spirit of this community.

We’d also like to congratulate the winners of this year’s contests and tournament awards:
🏌️ Longest Putt: Paul Adam
🏌️ Longest Drive: Jason Leu
🏌️Closest to the Pin: Chuck Barkely
đź‘” Best Dressed Team: I Like Big Putts, followed by R & R Flooring and Fire in the Hole

Thank you to the amazing staff at Irons Restaurant & Pub and Tagalong Golf Resort & Conference Center for your generosity, hospitality, expertise, and continued support in helping make this event such a success year after year. We are incredibly fortunate to have community partners who believe in what we do.

A huge thank you also goes out to the Friends of the BFCESD, our volunteers, and everyone behind the scenes who spent countless hours organizing, planning, setting up, cleaning up, collecting donations, coordinating raffles, and making sure the day ran smoothly. These events truly take a village.

To our sponsors, prize donors, golfers, family members, friends, and supporters — thank you. Your continued support allows us to provide emergency services to this community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We simply could not do this without you. 💙⛳

🚑💙 National EMS Week 2026 💙🚑
May 17–23, 2026

This week marks the 52nd anniversary of National EMS Week, first authorized in 1974 by President Gerald Ford to recognize EMS professionals and the lifesaving work they provide in communities across our nation.

This year’s theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” reflects the heart of emergency medical services. Every call is more than an emergency response — it’s a moment where compassion, skill, teamwork, and trust come together to make a difference in someone’s life.

From critical interventions and advanced prehospital care to simply holding a patient’s hand during a difficult moment, EMS clinicians impact lives every single day. These moments may not make headlines, but they matter deeply to the individuals, families, and communities we serve.

At Birchwood Four Corners Emergency Services District, we are proud of our EMS personnel for their unwavering dedication, professionalism, and compassion. Whether responding in the middle of the night, during severe weather, or on someone’s worst day, they continue to answer the call with commitment and care.

EMS is constantly evolving through advanced training, new technology, and innovative patient care practices — but the foundation remains the same: people helping people.

During National EMS Week, we thank all EMS professionals, dispatchers, firefighters, healthcare partners, and community members who work together to improve outcomes every day.

Please join us in recognizing and thanking the EMS clinicians who serve our communities with courage and compassion. đźš‘

🚩Red Flag Warning ‼️ 🚩

We're asking the public to avoid outdoor burning activities, as fire danger has reached Critical levels across Northern and Western Wisconsin Thursday, May 14 through the evening of Saturday, May 16.

In conjunction with the National Weather Service, a Red Flag Warning is forecast for Friday, May 15 from noon to 9 p.m. in the following counties: Douglas, Bayfield, Washburn, Burnett, Sawyer, Ashland, Iron, Rusk, Barron, Polk and Vilas.

As of Thursday, May 14, DNR burning permits are suspended in 31 counties. Additional suspensions are possible with worsening conditions forecast heading into the weekend. Find updated information on DNR burning permit suspensions on the DNR's WisBurn tool: https://apps.dnr.wi.gov/wisburn/ #/BurnRestrictions

Fire risk is increased by ongoing dry vegetation, low humidity, warming temperatures and gusty winds forecast heading into the weekend, with Very High fire danger anticipated in areas where vegetation has not fully greened up.

Wisconsin's fire season is currently at its annual peak, as pine trees in areas with sandy soils are extremely vulnerable to "crown fires," wherein flames move from the ground to the tree tops and spread with intensity. Recent rains have not minimized wildfire concerns, as grasses, pine needles and leaf litter can dry out in just a few days between precipitation events, creating hazardous conditions.

As elevated fire risks persist, the DNR will continue to suspend all DNR-issued burn permits for debris piles and broadcast burning until widespread rain occurs. The DNR has responded to nearly 500 wildfires thus far in 2026, with 45% of those caused by debris burning.

Embers from any recent fires, especially burn piles and campfires, can easily get out of control and cause a wildfire if not properly extinguished. Please avoid all burning in areas of concern, including warming or cooking fires, until conditions improve.

Outdoor enthusiasts should also be extra careful with off-road vehicles or equipment that can create a spark and start a fire. With dry weather conditions across much of the state, fires can spark at any time.
Follow these simple tips to prevent wildfires from getting out of control:

– Avoid outdoor burning, including campfires, until conditions improve.
– Operate equipment (chainsaws, off-road vehicles, lawnmowers, etc.) early in the morning or late in the day to avoid sparks at peak burn hours.
– Secure dragging trailer chains.
– Report fires early and call 911.
