🚌🥋 E2 had an unforgettable field trip last week to Origin Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Rice Lake! In just one hour, these upper elementary students walked away with *so many powerful life lessons* — lessons in courage, confidence, and personal safety. 💪
They learned:
✅ How to break free if someone grabs their wrist
✅ How to stay on their feet and keep their balance
✅ How to take down someone bigger using leverage (not strength!)
✅ How to scissor sweep their way out of a dangerous hold
One of the most important takeaways? That our best defense is to run— and they practiced how to get into a safe position to run and get help fast. They also learned how to safely keep someone from causing harm to themselves or others until more help arrives.
What makes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu especially powerful is its anti-bullying focus. Coined the "gentle martial art" it teaches kids how to stay calm under pressure, defend themselves without aggression, and carry themselves with quiet confidence. At this age, these lessons are gold.
Huge thanks to our phenomenal instructor, Black Belt and World Champion Jesse Reine, for guiding our students with skill, patience, and so much heart. You made every minute count — and every child feel strong and capable. 🙌
Thank you, Origin BJJ, for helping our students grow stronger, safer, and more self-aware. This is exactly the kind of hands-on, heart-strong learning we love! Also a huge thank you to the Educational Foundation of Birchwood for funding this incredible experience!! ❤️🥋
