Celebrating Community at BVCC Ice Cream Social

Thank you neighbors! Despite a last-minute venue change due to weather concerns, more than 75 of you joined us at Village Hall for the Birchwood Village Connections Committee's first-ever event: an ice cream social and rock-painting activity.

Residents of all ages enjoyed building ice cream sundaes, sipping root beer floats and painting colorful rocks that will soon become part of a community rock caterpillar along the path at Polly's Park. We're grateful for everyone who attended, volunteered and donated to help make the event a success. We loved seeing you connect with neighbors, make new friends and spend time together as a community. Stay tuned for more information on our next event!

Help Keep Our Streets Safe

Concerns have been raised regarding e-bike use by youth riders in Birchwood. Under Minnesota law, a person must be at least 15 years old to operate an e-bike. Minnesota law also requires riders under age 18 to wear a helmet while operating or riding an e-bike. The Washington County Sheriff's Office is aware of community concerns and will continue to monitor for unsafe or illegal e-bike operation. Parents and guardians are encouraged to review these regulations with young riders and emphasize safe, courteous use of streets, sidewalks, and trails. For more information visit: Bicycle and pedestrian laws | Minnesota Department of Public Safety

Additionally, we would like to remind residents that golf cart use is not permitted on City streets.

You may notice City staff working throughout Birchwood to identify residents’ water shut-off valve locations, where the water main connects to the home’s supply line. Work will begin near Birchwood Avenue and Jay and continue throughout the City. Staff will be working in front yards and wearing a Birchwood Village yellow vest.

Birchwood started out in the late 1800’s as a weekend retreat for St. Paul residents. They first lived in tents and simple 3-season cottages, and later built year-round homes. Birchwood was incorporated as a village in 1921.
