Reminder: There will be no yard waste pickup in the City of Binghamton on Monday, Sept. 7 due to the Labor Day holiday.

Starting August 24, 2026 until completion, the City of Binghamton Water Distribution Department will conduct a Citywide hydrant flushing and testing.

Days of the Week: Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Flushing is expected to be completed within two weeks.

Water discoloration may be evident at various times during this period and you may experience low pressure at the time. Nonetheless, the water will remain safe for use.

Please check your cold water supply before using any water in your home. For a short period of time, it may be necessary to run your cold water only to clear your service line of air and fine particles.

Portions of Vestal Avenue between Mary Street and Rush Avenue will be closed to through traffic for milling as follows:

On Monday, Aug. 10, Vestal Avenue between Rush Avenue and Mitchell Avenue will be closed.

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, Vestal Avenue between Mitchell Avenue and Mary Street will be closed.

A detour will be in place both days, with a flagger on site to assist with traffic flow during the morning commute hours. Motorists should follow detour signage or avoid the area, if possible. Traffic delays are anticipated during the work.

Access to UHS Binghamton General Hospital and surrounding medical facilities will be accessible from the southern ends of Pennsylvania, Park and Mitchell avenues, and via Manier Avenue from Rush Avenue.

Vestal Avenue is expected to reopen to traffic by Tuesday night, with lane closures in place through the rest of the week to prepare for paving later this month.

The work and closure schedule is weather dependent.

Reminder: Refuse collection in the City of Binghamton will follow a holiday schedule this week, with City Hall closed on Friday for the Independence Day weekend.

That means residents should put out their trash and recycling one day earlier than normal this week.

-Tuesday's refuse collection was on Monday
-Wednesday's refuse collection is Tuesday (today)
-Thursday's refuse collection is Wednesday
-Friday's refuse collection is Thursday

Normal refuse collection schedules will resume next week.

Refuse collection in the City of Binghamton will follow a holiday schedule next week, with City Hall closed on Friday for the Independence Day weekend.

That means residents should put out their trash and recycling one day earlier than normal next week. There will be no yard waste collection on Monday, June 29.

Recreation Park Pool is temporarily closed until further notice for maintenance purposes.

Cheri Lindsey Pool will be open today.

Portions of Riverside Drive between Memorial Bridge and Beethoven Street will be closed to through traffic this week for milling.

A detour will be in place on Leroy Street. Traffic delays are anticipated, and motorists are encouraged to avoid the area.

The closure schedule is as follows:

On Tuesday, Memorial Bridge will be reduced to one lane of traffic, and Riverside Drive between Front Street and Murray Street will be closed to through traffic.

On Wednesday, Riverside Drive between Murray Street and Vermont Avenue will be closed to through traffic.

On Thursday, Riverside Drive between Vermont Avenue and Beethoven Street will be closed to through traffic.

The work and closure schedule is weather dependent.

Crews will continue work on Riverside Drive the week of June 1, and paving will follow.

Reminder: There will be no yard waste pickup in the City of Binghamton on Monday, May 25 due to the Memorial Day holiday.

Yard waste pickup will resume the following Monday.

The City of Binghamton will hold a FREE paint recycling event this Saturday at the Public Works garage on Broad Street.

Residents can drop off unwanted latex and oil-based paint, stains, and deck coatings for professional recycling.

It's a convenient, drive-through event in partnership with Green Sheen Paint, which collects and recycles leftover paint, preventing it from entering landfills.
