❓What is a microchip & why is it important❓
A microchip is a TINY CHIP, about the size of a grain of rice, that is safely implanted under your dog’s skin. It contains a unique ID number linked to your contact information. If your dog ever becomes lost and is brought to a shelter or veterinary clinic, they can scan the chip and quickly contact you, helping reunite you with your best friend. 😃

❌ Common Misconception:
A microchip is NOT a GPS tracking device. It cannot track your dog’s location in real time. It simply provides permanent identification that can be scanned when your pet is found.

🐱 What about cats?
Unfortunately, this grant covers dogs only. Cat microchipping is available for $25. Please call our office to schedule your cat’s appointment at 607-724-3709 ext. 107.

🏷️ Don’t FURGET an ID tag❗️
A microchip is a great backup, but your pet should always wear a COLLAR with a current ID tag. Make sure the phone number on the tag is up to date so someone can contact you immediately if your pet is found.

A person is always more than the worst moment in their life, and a case file never tells the whole story.

The Broome County Public Defender’s Office is introducing More Than a Case File, an educational series exploring the experiences, circumstances, and systems that can affect the people we represent.

We are beginning by sharing the first two issues:

Issue 1: Holistic Defense
An introduction to looking beyond the immediate legal case and understanding the broader circumstances that may shape a person’s involvement in the legal system.

Issue 2: Difficult Conversations
A look at what may be happening beneath challenging behavior, and how calm, curiosity, and thoughtful communication can help strengthen trust rather than erode it.

Housing instability, trauma, mental health, substance use, fear, confusion, and prior experiences with legal or service systems can all influence how someone responds in a difficult moment.

Understanding that context does not mean ignoring accountability. It means identifying responses and solutions that are informed, realistic, and more likely to create meaningful change.

We invite you to read and share the first two issues of More Than a Case File. New issues will be shared monthly.

Announcement, announcement, announcement!!! We are so excited to share that we have completed our health inspection and have our health permit. Community meals will begin operation on Thursday, June 11, 2026. The hours are as follows:

Every
Thursday: 4-5pm
Friday: 4-5pm
Saturday: 4-5pm
Sunday: 4-5pm
Monday: 4-5pm

86 Walnut St. Binghamton. Enter dining room through the back entrance please.

***Breakfast bags will be available at each dinner meal. Bags will also be available for Tuesday and Wednesday on Monday evenings.

📣📣📣 The Binghamton Housing Authority will accept Public Housing Applications for Efficiency / Studios, & 1 – Bdrm. Units, starting at 8:00AM Monday 6/8/26 and will close at 4:00 PM on Friday 6/12/26. Public Housing Applications will be available @ 45 Exchange Street Binghamton NY 13901 for pick up and drop off ONLY from 8:00AM – 4:00PM. Applications submitted by mail, MUST BE POSTMARKED no later than 6/12/26. 📣📣📣
