Are you excited to view the Big Boy No. 4014 as it travels through Broome County on Friday? It will be traveling from Owego to Binghamton beginning around 11:30am in the West.

Here are some safety tips for viewing safely:

Big Boy is enormous, and when it passes at speed, it can create strong wind and debris.
🔸Stay at least 25 feet (8 meters) from the track.
🔸Never stand on the rails or ballast.
🔸Expect dust and steam.

Many people gather at grade crossings to watch trains pass. If you choose one of these locations:
🔹Stay behind crossing gates and warning lights
🔹Never walk around lowered gates
🔹Do not park vehicles on or near the tracks
🔹Expect additional trains on nearby tracks

Big Boy is one of the most photogenic locomotives in the world. Here are a few ways to capture great shots safely.
🔸 Use a telephoto or zoom lens instead of moving closer
🔸 Scout your location early
🔸 Be aware of where you’re standing
🔸 Keep clear escape paths from roads or crowds

If you plan to watch Big Boy for a while, a few items make the experience better:
🔹Sunglasses or safety glasses (for cinders)
🔹Hat or cap
🔹Camera with zoom lens
🔹Water and sunscreen
🔹Comfortable walking shoes
