Yesterday, Citizen Action of New York hit the streets of New York City to support an incredible slate of candidates who are fighting for working families, including AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez )

We knocked on doors, had meaningful conversations with voters, and talked about why these leaders are committed to making New York a place where everyone can thrive not just the wealthy or well-connected. From affordable housing and quality healthcare to workers’ rights and stronger public schools, these candidates are focused on putting people first.

Grassroots organizing is where change begins. Every conversation matters, every door knocked matters, and every voter reached brings us one step closer to building a New York that works for all of us.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, canvassed, and welcomed us into your neighborhoods. Together, we’re building people power one conversation at a time. 💙✊🏾🗽

Do you rely on Medicaid or Medicare for your health care?

We want to hear your story.

Health care is more than policy it's about real people, real families, and real lives. Whether Medicaid or Medicare has helped you access life-saving care, medications, mental health services, preventive care, or support for a loved one, your story matters.

We're looking for community members willing to share how these programs have impacted their lives and why protecting affordable, accessible health care is important.

If you're interested in sharing your experience, please send us a message or leave a comment below. Your voice can help raise awareness and advocate for the health care our communities need.

Today, Citizen Action and our coalition partners stood together to say No Fracking Way to the Constitution Pipeline in New York State.

We beat this project once before because communities across New York organized, spoke out, and refused to back down. Now, as this harmful proposal resurfaces, we’re ready to fight again.

The Constitution Pipeline threatens our water, our environment, and our communities. New Yorkers have already made it clear that we do not want more fossil fuel infrastructure putting our future at risk.

We won this fight the first time, and we will fight like hell to win again.

No Constitution Pipeline. No fracking. No turning back.

Today the crew took it to Albany to lobby our Assembly reps to support the REST bill for rent stabilization and we’re proud to share that Donna Lupardo has officially signed on 🙌🏽

Huge thank you to Assembly member Donna Lupardo for listening to the community and standing with tenants in this fight for housing justice.

This is what people power looks like. Showing up, speaking out, and pushing for change.

We’re not done yet but this is a win worth celebrating 💪🏽🏠

On May Day, we come together to fight for the rights of workers around the world who fought for an 8 hour workday. This day commemorates labor organizing which began in Chicago in 1886, and is still vital today. Working families around the world are still not getting their fair shake. I'm proud to have worked with labor unions throughout my career and will continue to show up and stand up for working people.

🚨 Broome county — LET’S TALK ABOUT RENT. 🚨

What if our community had the power to actually stabilize rent and keep families in their homes?

The New York REST Act (Rent Emergency Stabilization for Tenants Act) would give cities like ours the ability to cap extreme rent increases, prevent displacement, and protect working people from being priced out.

This isn’t just a NYC issue this is about us.
This is about Binghamton tenants, families, elders, and young people trying to stay rooted in our community.

💥 We’re heading to Albany to demand change.
And we need YOU with us.

🚨 ALBANY WE’RE COMING — MAY 5TH 🚨

Tenants across New York are tired of being priced out, pushed out, and ignored. It’s time to stand up and demand real protections. Join us in Albany on May 5th to rally for the REST Act (S04659A / A04877) and fight for housing that people can actually afford.

THE REST ACT = REAL RELIEF FOR TENANTS

This bill gives communities outside of NYC the power to adopt rent stabilization and keep people in our homes.

🏠 Why this matters:

* Rent stabilization keeps families rooted tenants in these homes are 3x more likely to stay 20+ years
* Over 9.2 million New Yorkers are tenants that’s HALF the state
* In Syracuse, nearly 1 in 4 tenants faced eviction attempts last year
* In the Capital Region, renters are working 64 hours a week just to afford rent

📍 And right here in Binghamton & Broome County:

* Rents keep rising while wages aren’t keeping up
* Families are being forced to move, double up, or leave the community altogether
* Too many tenants are one emergency away from eviction or homelessness
* We deserve the same protections as tenants in NYC — stability, fairness, and a chance to stay in our homes

💥 The problem:
Outdated state laws block cities like Albany, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, Kingston, Rochester — and communities like Binghamton from protecting tenants. The system is set up to favor big real estate interests not the people who live here.

✅ The REST Act fixes this by:

* Making it easier for communities to opt into rent stabilization
* Giving local control over which buildings are covered
* Updating protections so they actually reflect today’s housing reality

✊🏾 81% of New Yorkers support rent stabilization now we need action.

📍 Be there. Be loud. Be counted.
