🚨 ALBANY WE’RE COMING — MAY 5TH 🚨
Tenants across New York are tired of being priced out, pushed out, and ignored. It’s time to stand up and demand real protections. Join us in Albany on May 5th to rally for the REST Act (S04659A / A04877) and fight for housing that people can actually afford.
THE REST ACT = REAL RELIEF FOR TENANTS
This bill gives communities outside of NYC the power to adopt rent stabilization and keep people in our homes.
🏠 Why this matters:
* Rent stabilization keeps families rooted tenants in these homes are 3x more likely to stay 20+ years
* Over 9.2 million New Yorkers are tenants that’s HALF the state
* In Syracuse, nearly 1 in 4 tenants faced eviction attempts last year
* In the Capital Region, renters are working 64 hours a week just to afford rent
📍 And right here in Binghamton & Broome County:
* Rents keep rising while wages aren’t keeping up
* Families are being forced to move, double up, or leave the community altogether
* Too many tenants are one emergency away from eviction or homelessness
* We deserve the same protections as tenants in NYC — stability, fairness, and a chance to stay in our homes
💥 The problem:
Outdated state laws block cities like Albany, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, Kingston, Rochester — and communities like Binghamton from protecting tenants. The system is set up to favor big real estate interests not the people who live here.
✅ The REST Act fixes this by:
* Making it easier for communities to opt into rent stabilization
* Giving local control over which buildings are covered
* Updating protections so they actually reflect today’s housing reality
✊🏾 81% of New Yorkers support rent stabilization now we need action.
📍 Be there. Be loud. Be counted.
