This is why the Responsible Data Center Development Act matters.

New York has a chance to put real guardrails around the rapid expansion of large-scale data centers and communities like ours need to be paying attention.

The Responsible Data Center Development Act would establish a one-year moratorium on new data centers using 20 megawatts or more, require greater public participation, study the impacts on our electricity, water, environment and infrastructure, and create protections so residential ratepayers aren’t unfairly stuck paying for the costs associated with these massive facilities.

And here’s something people need to understand:

20 MW and 50 MW are NOT the same threshold.

The Governor’s moratorium uses a 50 MW threshold. The Responsible Data Center Development Act uses 20 MW meaning it would cover more projects and give communities more protection.

Yes, Broome County already has data center operations. That isn’t the point.

The question is: What happens when we start talking about massive new facilities that can consume enormous amounts of electricity and water and require major infrastructure investments?

Who gets to make those decisions?

The companies?

The developers?

The politicians?

Or the people who actually live here and will have to live with the consequences?

We deserve a seat at the table BEFORE these projects are approved not after.

That’s what responsible development should mean.

20 and up. Not 50 and up.
Community input. Transparency. Accountability.
Protect our residents and our resources.

We showed up in Binghamton last week to demand stronger protections from energy-hungry data centers. A moratorium isn’t enough—our communities NEED the Responsible Data Center Development Act signed into law.

📣 CITIZEN ACTION ENDORSEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

We’re excited to officially announce the first round of candidates endorsed by Citizen Action of New York! ✊🏾🗳️

This is just the beginning more endorsements are coming.

We’re proud to support candidates who understand that elections are about more than choosing who holds office. Elections are an opportunity to build people power and elect leaders who will fight for working people and the communities they represent.

We believe we can win a world where housing is a human right, healthcare is accessible to everyone, workers have the power to organize, public education is fully funded, immigrant communities are protected, and every person has a meaningful voice in our democracy.

We believe in candidates who are willing to challenge systems that put corporate interests and profit over people—and who will fight for policies that create real, material change in our communities.

Our endorsements are rooted in a simple belief: organized people have the power to change the world.

So today, we’re proud to introduce our first slate of endorsed candidates. We’re ready to organize, knock doors, make calls, build relationships, and mobilize our communities to help elect leaders who will fight alongside us.

This is our first rollout. More candidates are coming. More organizing is coming. And the fight for people power continues.

✊🏾 We believe we can win and we’re organizing to win.

Tomorrow at Citizen Action, we’ll be continuing our Black August Study Series with a discussion on Fred Hampton.

We’ll learn more about his life, leadership, organizing, and the legacy he left behind. Black August is a time to study the history of resistance, liberation, and the people who dedicated their lives to building power in their communities.

Looking forward to another powerful political education discussion. ✊🏾🖤📚

Yesterday, Citizen Action chapters across New York came together to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid two programs that have transformed millions of lives.

For six decades, Medicare and Medicaid have ensured that seniors, people with disabilities, children, families, and low-income New Yorkers can access the health care they need. These programs are more than policies they are a promise that no one should have to choose between their health and their finances.

As we celebrate this milestone, we also recognize that our work isn’t finished. We must continue fighting to protect and strengthen Medicare and Medicaid, lower the cost of health care and prescription drugs, and ensure everyone has access to quality, affordable care.

Happy 61 Anniversary to Medicare and Medicaid! Here’s to honoring the progress we’ve made and continuing the fight for health care as a human right. 💙🎉
