Today marks 25 years since September 11, 2001.

I was only six years old when 9/11 happened, so I won't pretend I understood the magnitude of that day at the time. As I grew older, I came to understand just how much it changed our country and my own family.

My dad served in the military and deployed twice in the years that followed. Now, as a father and someone who has chosen a career in public service, I have an even greater appreciation for the sacrifices made by so many after that day.

Today, we remember the 2,977 lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, the service members who answered the call afterward, and the families who sacrificed alongside them.

25 years later, we still remember.

Never Forget. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

We hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

We also hope everyone had a chance to make it out and enjoy the Billings Community Fair. A big shoutout and thank you to the Billings Fair Board and everyone who put in the time and hard work to make this yearโ€™s fair possible. Events like this are a great reminder of what makes our small community special.

The Billings Police Department would also like to extend a special thank you to Marionville Powersports for generously donating the use of a Kawasaki MULE for our officers during the fair. The MULE made it much easier for our officers to get around the fairgrounds, stay accessible, and help keep things running safely throughout the day.

We truly appreciate Marionville Powersports stepping up to support our department and our community.

Thank you to everyone who came out, said hello, and helped make the Billings Community Fair another great community event!

๐Ÿš” Proactive Police Work

Recently, a Billings Police Officer conducted a traffic stop that developed into an investigation resulting in the seizure of a significant quantity of suspected methamphetamine, L*D, and ma*****na.

We understand that Missouri law permits the lawful possession and use of ma*****na under certain circumstances. The ma*****na involved in this incident was not seized simply because ma*****na was present. Based on the circumstances observed during the investigation, including the manner in which the substances were packaged and labeled, the officer developed probable cause to believe the substances were intended for distribution.

The investigating officer will be submitting a probable cause statement to the appropriate prosecuting authority for consideration of charges related to the alleged delivery of controlled substances.

Many of the calls, traffic stops, and investigations handled by our officers never make it onto social media. However, we believe it's important for our community to occasionally see the proactive work taking place behind the scenes.

What began as a traffic stop ultimately resulted in suspected illegal drugs being removed from our community. We are proud of the officer's initiative, attention to detail, and commitment to keeping Billings a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.

As with all criminal matters, the submission of a probable cause statement is not a conviction. All individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Billings Police Department extends our deepest condolences to Morgan and her entire family following the heartbreaking loss of her 2-year-old daughter, Josie.

Morgan grew up here in Billings. Although we never had the opportunity to meet Josie, it is clear from the love shared by her family that she was a funny, smart, spunky little girl who brought tremendous joy to everyone around her. Her life was far too short, but the love and memories she leaves behind will remain forever.

A family-authorized GoFundMe has been established to help Morgan and her family with expenses during this unimaginable time. If you are able, please consider donating or sharing the link below.

Above all, we ask our community to keep Morgan, Josieโ€™s siblings, and everyone who knew and loved Josie in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve this devastating loss. ๐Ÿ’œ

This fundraiser is independently administered and is not affiliated with the Billings Police Department or the City of Billings. The department is sharing the family-authorized link as a community service. All donations are voluntary and made directly through GoFundMe.

The Billings Police Department would like to thank the Aurora Missouri Police Department for inviting us to participate in their recent Active Intruder Response Training.

Officer Baldwin had the opportunity to attend and train alongside Aurora officers, gaining valuable hands-on experience in tactics, decision-making, communication, and coordinated response to active-threat situations.

While we hope these skills are never needed, realistic training and continued preparation are critical to ensuring our officers are ready to respond effectively should an incident occur in our community.

We greatly appreciate the Aurora Police Department for sharing their knowledge, experience, and training opportunities with neighboring agencies. Partnerships like these make all of our communities safer.

-Local law enforcement officers from Aurora, Billings and Marionville spent a day training for active shooter scenarios inside schools, practicing tactical movements and rapid response techniques before an emergency occurs.

๐Ÿšจ Senior Safety Series: August Fraud Prevention ๐Ÿšจ

Scammers continue to target older adults every day, and awareness is one of the best ways to prevent becoming a victim.

This month, the Billings Police Department is sharing information on some of the most common scams affecting seniors, including: โ˜Ž๏ธ Government impersonation scams ๐Ÿ’ป Tech support scams โค๏ธ Romance scams ๐Ÿ’ฐ Investment scams ๐ŸŽ Gift card scams

Remember: Stop. Verify. Protect.

โœ”๏ธ Never feel pressured to send money or share personal information. โœ”๏ธ Hang up and verify the caller before taking action. โœ”๏ธ Talk with a trusted family member or contact us if something doesn't seem right.

If you or someone you know believes they've been targeted by a scam, report it. Even if no money was lost, your report may help prevent someone else from becoming a victim.

Today, the Billings, Missouri Police Department pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our nation.

Memorial Day is more than a holiday, it is a time to reflect on the courage, dedication, and selflessness of those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy every day. Their legacy lives on through the communities they protected and the lives they touched.

As we gather with family and friends, let us never forget the true meaning of this day and the heroes who are no longer with us.

From all of us at the Billings Police Department, we extend our deepest gratitude to our fallen service members and their families.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ We will never forget. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ
