Each recipient is carefully selected, considering their academic achievements, financial need, and commitment to advancing the YWCA's mission of empowering women, eliminating racism, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Meet Julia Houston! Julia, a graduate student in the Physician Assistant program at Rocky Mountain College, brings warmth, humility, and a hard-won perspective to her pursuit of a career in medicine. Balancing the demands of rigorous PA coursework while supporting herself financially, Julia approaches her studies with the values that guide her life: kindness, compassion, curiosity, and ambition.
Julia's journey has been shaped by meaningful challenge—from navigating emotional demands as a medical assistant at a fertility clinic to supporting her younger brother through cancer treatment at age 19. Each experience deepened her commitment to patient-centered, equitable care.
Through healthcare advocacy and championing women's health literacy, Julia consistently fosters inclusion and dignity in the spaces she occupies.
As a future PA, Julia's empathy, self-awareness, and dedication to her community make her a deserving and inspiring recipient of the Salute to Student Scholarship.
