Beneath the shield is a parted curved Red scroll inscribed “SUSTAIN
THE FIGHT” in Silver letters. Symbolism: The field is red, white and blue and alludes to the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation that the unit was awarded during World War II. The red also stands for Field Artillery and the blue represents Infantry, both part of the Battalion’s history. The white dancetté symbolizes the mountains of Montana. The machete represents the unit’s history in World War II during which they were known as the “Jungleers” under the 163d Infantry and the two broken samurai swords represent the defeat of the Japan forces in Papua, New Guinea, and again in Luzon and the Southern Philippines for which the unit received campaign credit.
