🦺🚰Starting Monday, June 22, 2026, our Distribution & Collection crew will begin water main pipe bursting in the Pioneer Park neighborhood in the following order:
1️⃣ Ave F from 7th St W to Virginia Ln
2️⃣ Ave E from 7th St W to Virginia Ln
3️⃣ Virginia Ln from Ave E to O'Malley Dr

Approximately 4,600 feet of cast iron water main in various sizes installed as early as 1917 will be replaced with the much more durable and corrosion-resistant 8-inch PVC pipe this summer 🌞 This means...
✅ Aging infrastructure gets brought up to modern standards
✅ Neighbors in the area should see improved water pressure
✅ Pipe bursting creates far less disruption than digging up entire streets

🚧 During construction, access will remain open for residents and first responders only. Please follow traffic control signs, watch for construction equipment and workers, and drive carefully in the area.

Thanks for your patience as we continue improving Billings' water distribution system!

🗑️Lessons from garbage workers on 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆🎉

1️⃣ 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝟭,𝟬𝟬𝟬-𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻👣
Every residential collection operator services 1,000–1,200 cans each collection day across an average route of 60 miles.

2️⃣𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗱𝗼 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗔𝗡, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗔𝗡'𝗧.
With nearly 100,000 black and green cans to collect every week, a CAN-do attitude is what makes it possible💪

3️⃣𝗬𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 — 𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁, 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄, 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹🌿
Our seasonal yard waste program runs for 8 months each year, and every participating household can have up to two green cans at NO additional cost.

4️⃣𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆'𝘀 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗲. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 & 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆🚜
While visitors may see a mountain of garbage, our compactor operators see optimal fill and maximum compaction. Working an area of 100 feet by 100 feet at a time, they compact every 2-foot layer of garbage down to merely 6 inches, well exceeding industry standards and extending the life of our landfill for generations to come.

5️⃣𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗯𝘆 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄🏠🏠🏠
Through our partnership with Montana-Dakota Utilities, the renewable natural gas generated through the plant’s lifetime can provide heat and hot water for more than 17,000 Montana homes for an entire year. Revenue from the program helps keep our service rates low which is rather helpful in this economy.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 to those who keep Billings clean, safe, and beautiful every day🚛 Thank you for all you do!🦺

🌱 Here's your daily reminder to touch grass. Just kidding... 😅 It's just our landscaping crew repairing irrigation lines to keep up with landscaping season in Billings ☀

Sprinklers typically run from early May through early October depending on the year and keeping everything thriving is no small task. Our team cares for more than 350 irrigation zones (about 20 miles of irrigation lines ), 600 trees 🌳, 5,000+ plants 🌸, 40 miles of mowing, 15 roundabouts, and the beautiful Shiloh Conservation Area.

Beyond making Billings look beautiful, these landscaped areas provide visual awareness and traffic-calming benefits for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians🚸

And yes... the mowing, mulching, w**d pulling, edging, fertilizing, tree trimming, sprinkler adjustments, and irrigation repairs are pretty much endless this time of year🦺 which is why we can use some seasonal help~ Check out our seasonal position at www.governmentjobs.com/careers/billingsmt/jobs/5322065/seasonal-landscape-maintenance-labor-street-traffic

Never a boring day at our award winning Water Reclamation Facility! 🤩

Take a look at what goes on behind the scenes during our annual bioreactor maintenance⭐ Each of the four bioreactors holds almost 3 million gallons of the entire city's "contribution" every time someone flushes, washes their hands, showers, or does laundry. The natural biological process that turns wastewater into safe, non-potable water is truly fascinating. What’s even cooler is that the water treated right here at the plant is put to good use cleaning and maintaining the very bioreactors that helped treat it!

Are you awesome like Brayden?🤩Please join our award winning Water Reclamation team as a Facility Technician if so!

Coming from a military family, Brayden joined the Air Force right out of high school and continues to serve in the National Reserve after two years of active duty. Even as a high school student, he took a building construction course offered at the Billings Career Center where students from various disciplines such as construction & framing, electrical & plumbing, interior design, and landscaping came together to build a house that was featured in the Billings Parade of Homes. No wonder his specialty was hangar construction in the service. Brayden also brings a couple years of experience as an apprentice operator at a local chemical plant producing sulfur for agriculture use.

Even though he grew up with an actual view of the Water Reclamation Facility from his house, Brayden never thought about what goes on here or working here one day. His construction and mechanical experiences, however, are helping him learn quickly, and having a welcoming, knowledgeable team of mentors doesn't hurt either.

Brayden joined the team just in time as the annual bioreactor maintenance is sort of the rite of passage for new team members. Only 3 weeks in and he's already jumping in when duty calls 😅 Each of the four bioreactors holds almost 3 million gallons of the entire city's "contribution" every time someone flushes, washes their hands, showers, or does laundry. The natural biological process that turns wastewater into safe, non-potable water is truly fascinating to Brayden. What’s even cooler? The water treated right here at the plant is put to good use cleaning and maintaining the very bioreactors that helped treat it!

On top of all that he’s busy preparing for his Wastewater Class 1C test to become a certified operator, which he has a year to pass. His mentor Matt passed it in 6 months. Braydon is secretly determined to break that record.

If you find all this meaningful and challenging in a good way, check out our Water Reclamation Technician opening at www.governmentjobs.com/careers/billingsmt/jobs/5303866/water-reclamation-facility-technician-iii
