Our team at the 911 center is continually humbled by the kindness and generosity shown by our community. A huge heartfelt thank you to everyone who continues to reach out, check in, and support our dispatchers.
Another big thank you goes out to Shiloh Commons, Elevated Living with Interpointe Apartments, and Billings Probation and Parole for stopping by today with a big variety of drinks and snacks for our staff.
Beyond today's visits, the ongoing delivery of dinners, flowers, drinks, cards, homemade baked goods and check-ins has been incredible. This on-going generosity serves as a constant reminder that we are never alone and that our community truly stands behind us. Gestures like these make difficult shifts much brighter and mean more to our team than words can truly say.
Knowing we have such a supportive community and agencies we work with behind us makes all the difference in the work we do every day. Thank you for always having our backs! 🎧💛

35 Years. Think about that for a minute.

Today, we celebrate an incredible milestone for someone who has dedicated 35 years of her life to the citizens of Yellowstone County.

On September 3, 1991, Cassie walked into dispatch and began a career that would span decades. Back then , dispatch operated out of the concrete bunker on the backside of Fire Station 1. There were no windows until 1998. Reports were handwritten. When dispatchers needed to determine jurisdicitional boundaries, they checked the maps hanging on the wall.

A lot has changed in 35 years.

Cassie has watched dispatch evolve through changing technology, new systems, new buildings, new faces, and countless changes to the way we do this job. But through every change , one thing has remained the same-- her commitment to this profession and the people she serves alongside.

Thirty-five years in any career is an accomplishment. Thirty-five years in 911 is something truly extraordinary.

Cassie, your career represents dedication, resilience, experience, and a commitment to a profession that few truly understand. Today, we celebrate not just the number 35, but the incredible career and legacy behind it.

Congratulations, Cassie. We are lucky to have you on our team!! Can you make 10 more??!

Congratulations, Chief Bentz!

After more than 26 years of dedicated service, Assistant Chief of Operations Kevin Bentz has been selected to serve as Interim Fire Chief of the Billings Fire Department!

Chief Bentz has spent more than two and a half decades serving this department, its members, and the Billings community. Throughout his career, he has earned the respect of those around him through his experience, leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the fire service.

He knows this department. He knows our people. He knows our community. And now, he will lead Billings Fire into its next chapter.

Stepping into the role of Fire Chief is no small responsibility, and we are incredibly proud to see one of our own take the helm. Chief Bentz brings decades of knowledge and experience to the position, but just as importantly, he brings a genuine commitment to the men and women who proudly serve Billings every day.

26+ years of service. A career built on commitment. And a well-earned opportunity to lead.

Last night, our 911 Center handled a truly horrific and incredibly complex incident.
Navigating a call of this magnitude is one of the hardest challenges a center can face. While managing multiple callers, rushing requests, rapidly changing information, and heavy operational demands, our team worked to maintain control, gather accurate information, and get the right resources where they needed to be in a timely manner.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends and responders impacted by this tragedy.
These calls are never easy, and they leave an enduring impact on our hearts.
We also want to extend our unwavering support to the brave first responders who rushed into the scene last night. We stand with you, recognizing the heavy emotional and physical toll field work takes during critical incidents like this.
We want to take a moment to express our sincere appreciation to every agency, individual, and citizen who has reached out in support of our staff. Your kindness and solidarity mean more than words can say.
Dispatchers truly are the voice you hear when everything else is falling apart.
