In some locations, it is difficult to get cell service to access Frio County 911.Program all cell phones with 830-334-3311 to contact any emergency services in Frio County.

• Bigfoot VFD serves 285 square miles of north and east Frio County. The service area is bordered by Medina and Atascosa Counties.

• Bigfoot VFD holds monthly business meetings o

n the first Thursday of each month at 7 pm at the fire station located at 13988 FM 472. All community members are welcome to attend and participate.

• Volunteer firefighters participate in training on Thursdays at 7pm. Contact Fire Chief Mark Leach at 210-213-0554 for more information if interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter.

• Bigfoot VFD is largely supported financially by donations and two annual fundraisers. A BBQ chicken fundraiser is held each May and a BBQ brisket and sausage fundraiser with auctions and bake sale is held in September on the opening Saturday of dove season each year. The food is always delicious with generous portions.

• Outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of the county is prohibited when a burn ban is in effect in Frio County. To check for a current burn ban, visit the Frio County website at www.co.frio.tx.us and look under the picture of the courthouse for a Burn Ban Notice in effect. Look under the County Offices tab, then County Judge tab on the website to apply for permission to burn during a burn ban. In order to burn at any time, regardless of whether a burn ban is in effect, you are required to contact 830-334-3311 to report the burn address and the time scheduled to start the burn.
