🚨 PUBLIC SAFETY UPDATE – COUNTY PARK CLOSURES 🚨

On Friday, July 31, 2026, at 7:40 p.m., the Dimmit County Commissioners Court held an Emergency Meeting to acknowledge reports of what appears to be oil in the Turkey Creek area.

As of today, July 31, the appropriate state agencies had been notified through TDEM at approximately 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

While Dimmit County is not responsible for the reported spill, the County has agreed to coordinate and contact a hazardous materials company. To begin clean up efforts as necessary to help protect public health and safety.

As a precaution, the following county parks are CLOSED until further notice:

🚫 Turkey Creek (The Rabbit) – Espantosa Subdivision
🚫 Presidio Park
🚫 Midway Park

These closures are being implemented solely to protect the public while the situation is assessed and appropriate cleanup efforts are coordinated.

We know many of you have been looking forward to getting back out and fishing, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding. Please do not enter the closed park areas or bypass barricades. We will provide updates as soon as it is safe to reopen these locations.
