We are deeply grateful for The Rapha Foundation's continued support of the Southwest Virginia Children's Advocacy Center at MEOC.

Rapha Foundation Executive Director Mark Vanover recently presented a $175,000 check to support the CAC's work serving children and families across southwest Virginia. The funding is part of a generous three-year commitment that has helped fund critical positions at the CAC's satellite locations.

When MEOC Development Director Liz Daugherty's father was diagnosed with an aggressive form of head and neck cancer, her family faced one of the most difficult seasons of their lives.

Between treatments, transportation needs, nutritional challenges and the demands of caregiving, every form of support mattered.

In this MEOC Impact story, Liz shares her family's experience and how support from MEOC's Mountain Laurel Cancer Support & Resource Center helped ease some of the burdens during her father's cancer journey.

Today, her father is cancer-free.

A cancer diagnosis can come with unexpected expenses for patients and families. Travel costs, nutritional supplements and other everyday expenses can add up quickly during an already difficult time.

Proceeds from the 15th Annual Harold Lester Memorial Golf Tournament help ease those burdens by supporting MEOC's Mountain Laurel Cancer Support & Resource Center, which provides practical assistance to local cancer patients during treatment.

The tournament will be held Friday, June 12, at Lonesome Pine Country Club in Big Stone Gap. Registration opens at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month, and June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

At MEOC, our mission is to help older adults remain safe, healthy and independent in their homes and communities. Raising awareness about elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation is an important part of that work.

Throughout June, organizations across the country are working to increase awareness, promote prevention and encourage conversations about protecting older adults from abuse and exploitation.

Everyone has a role to play. Staying connected, learning the warning signs and speaking up when something doesn't seem right can help make a difference in the lives of older adults in our communities.
