This 1890s Victorian stone mansion with original oak interiors is a National Landmark and a museum with more than 60,000 pieces and exhibits that share the story of Southwest Virginia. DCR's social media activities are intended to present agency matters of public interest to clients, businesses and visitors. DCR encourages users to submit questions and comments but asks users to remain civil and on topic.

🗓️ Classes are held on Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. at the museum from Sept. 3 through Nov. 19. Each session includes instruments, a snack and a 90-minute instructional session.

Help make a difference at the park by joining rangers as we clean part of the wall at the museum. This hands-on opportunity gives visitors a chance to give back while contributing to the preservation of a historic landmark in the heart of Appalachia.

Hey, parents and guardians! Looking for a fun, enriching and hands-on program for your child this fall? 🍂

‼️ WiseJAMS is back, and it’s the perfect place for curious kids to explore Appalachian Mountain music traditions in a supportive environment.

🪕 What is WiseJAMS? A program that offers affordable classes in fiddle, old-time banjo and guitar for kids in third through eight grade.
📅 When is it? Classes are held on Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. at the museum from Sept. 3 through Nov. 19. Each session includes instruments, a snack and a 90-minute instructional session.
🎟️ What does it cost? Tuition is $180 per semester for full pay, $90 for partial pay and scholarships are available for any student who needs assistance.

🛍️ Our annual fall yard sale, presented by the Friends of the Southwest Virginia Museum, will return next month. Come shop a variety of items, from garden supplies to home decor.
