TERRY COUNTY STANDS TOGETHER FOR SU***DE PREVENTION

West Texas Centers was honored to stand alongside Brownfield Mayor Eric Horton and Terry County Judge Tony Serbantez as they presented a proclamation recognizing September 6–12 as Su***de Prevention Week.

This recognition means more than words on a proclamation. It is a reminder that people matter, families matter, and our communities matter.

We are deeply grateful to Mayor Horton and Judge Serbantez for their continued support of mental health awareness and for recognizing the importance of coming together to prevent su***de. It takes a community willing to care, listen, speak up, and reach out.

Su***de Prevention Week is about more than awareness — it is about connection. It is about recognizing the warning signs, checking on the person who may be struggling, starting the conversation, and making sure no one feels like they have to face a difficult moment alone.

West Texas Centers is proud to partner with the leaders and people of Terry County to promote hope, compassion, understanding, and access to care — not just this week, but every day.

ONE-MINUTE MOMENT OF SILENCE
On September 10 at 10:00 AM, we invite everyone across Terry County to pause for one minute of silence to remember those affected by su***de, honor those we have lost, and stand in support of the individuals and families who continue to carry that loss.

One conversation can make a difference. One person reaching out can make a difference. One moment of compassion can make a difference.

Let’s continue to look out for one another, ask the question, listen without judgment, and remind those who are hurting:

SEPTEMBER IS SU***DE PREVENTION & AWARENESS MONTH

September is a time to come together, raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind one another that every life matters.

Su***de can affect anyone. Sometimes the people who are hurting the most are the ones who hide it best. A simple conversation, a listening ear, or reaching out to someone you care about can make a difference.

This month, we encourage everyone to:
• Check in on your family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.
• Listen without judgment.
• Talk openly about mental health and su***de.

West Texas Centers extends our sincere gratitude to Nolan County Judge Whitley May for his 9 years of dedicated service on the West Texas Centers Board of Trustees.

West Texas Centers Board of Trustees

Today, during the West Texas Centers Board of Trustees meeting, WTC Board Vice Chairman and Garza County Judge Lee Norman administered the oath to new members: Terry County Judge Tony Serbantez (North Region), veteran Johnny Deleon (Central Region), Van York (Central Region), Vida Simpson (West Region) and Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs (East Region).

Please join us in congratulating Tony Serbantez and Johnny Deleon as they begin their service on the Board, and welcoming back Van York and Vida Simpson as they continue their commitment to West Texas Centers and the communities we serve.

We are grateful for the leadership, dedication, and commitment that each of these individuals brings to West Texas Centers. Thank you for your willingness to serve and help advance our mission of supporting individuals and families across West Texas.
