Change in Trash Pickup Schedule for City of Big Sandy Residents

Beginning Monday, June 1, 2026, Republic Services, the City of Big Sandy trash provider, will launch their "Hundred Days of Summer" campaign, where they will start trash pickup an hour earlier at 6:00 A.M.

Starting the trash routes earlier helps reduce heat related injuries for their employees who run 8-9 hour routes in 100+ degree temperatures.

This adjusted schedule will continue from June 2nd through September 1st.

Please have your trash carts curbside no later than 6:00 A.M. on your regular pickup days.

Thank you for helping us keep our essential workers healthy this summer!

There is a power line down near the intersection of S Wildcat and Gilmer Streets which has caused a power outage for parts of the city limits of Big Sandy.

Emergency crews are on site. Please avoid this area while crews make the needed repairs.

Good morning Big Sandy!

Have you received your utility (water) bill from the City of Big Sandy?

We mailed the utility bills to all customers the morning of March 27th, 2026.

Hopefully you've received your utility bill.

But if you haven't, you can come by or call City Hall at 903.636.4343 to get the amount due so you can pay your bill by the 10th of the month before late fees are incurred.

City offices will be closed on Friday, April 3, 2026 in observance of Good Friday!

Water payments may be paid through the Big Sandy Texas app or through our city web site www.bigsandytx.gov.

City Hall will re-open at 7:30 a.m. Monday, April 6th for regular business.

The City of Big Sandy has been notified that the railroad crossing on S Tyler Street in Big Sandy will temporarily close for approximately 36 hours starting Sunday morning March 29th, 2026 at 7:00 a.m.

The closure is necessary so the Union Pacific Railroad can make improvements to the crossing. During the work, a detour will be in place.

During the closure, Northbound and Southbound drivers will follow a 1-½ mile detour using Cotton Street and State Highway 155 South.

Work at the crossing will consist of surface removal, reconstruction of the diamond crossing, and paving of the crossing surface.

Union Pacific's contractors expect the work to be completed by Monday, March 30th, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.

The scheduled work is weather and schedule dependent.

The Burn Ban for the corporate city limits of Big Sandy has been lifted.

Mayor Baggett has issued a burn ban prohibiting all outdoor burning for the incorporated city limits of Big Sandy effective immediately.
