It’s National EMS Week! 🚑

May 17–23 is National EMS Week, and this year’s theme is "Improving Outcomes, Together." This week, we recognize the incredible dedication of the EMTs and Paramedics who serve the Big Rock Fire Protection District. From training to seamless teamwork on the scene, every effort is focused on one goal: delivering the best possible care to our neighbors when it matters most.

To our EMS crews: thank you for your dedication, your expertise, and the compassion you show to our neighbors during their toughest moments.

👉 How you can celebrate with us this week:
1. Drop a comment below thanking an EMT or Paramedic!
2. Slow down and move to the right when you see emergency lights on the road.
3. Learn bystander life-saving skills like CPR and Stop the Bleed. (Our next community CPR class is 7/28!)

🧠 May is National Stroke Awareness Month 🧠
Every second counts when it comes to a stroke. Would you know what to do if a loved one, colleague, or stranger started showing symptoms?

The best thing you can do is BE FAST to spot a stroke:
B - BALANCE: Did they suddenly lose balance or coordination?
E - EYES: Do they have changes in vision? Blurred or double?
F - FACE: Does one side of the face droop? Ask them to smile.
A - ARM: Does one arm drift downward? Ask them to raise both arms.
S - SPEECH: Is their speech slurred or strange? Ask them to repeat a simple phrase.
T - TIME: If you see any of these signs, call 911 immediately. Don’t wait!

Be the difference in Big Rock. đźš’

Volunteer fire departments are the backbone of rural communities like ours, but we can't do it alone. From community support that helps maintaining life-saving equipment to volunteers providing essential emergency services, we rely on neighbors helping neighbors.

Are you ready to step up when your community needs you most? We’re looking for dedicated volunteers to join the team.

📍 How to apply? Stop by the station or visit out website for an application.
📞 Have questions? Call us at 630-556-3214 and ask for Lieutenant Mathewson or Assistant Chief Kuhn.

A huge thank you to Support Over Stigma for the sweet surprise! 🍪

Our crew was treated to a generous donation of cookies today, and they were a major hit at the station.

We are so lucky to be part of such a thoughtful community. Thank you for your kindness and for supporting your local first responders! đźš’đźš‘

It’s National Volunteer Week! 🚒

We want to take a moment to recognize the dedicated men and women who make up our department. These are your neighbors, your friends, and your family who drop everything to protect our community when the tones go off. They don't do it for a paycheck—they do it because they care about the safety of our district.

To our volunteers: thank you for the missed dinners, the late nights, and the unwavering commitment to service.
