Location: 1st and Maryland

- The City of Big Lake has been notified and will shut off the gas in the affected area.
- Reagan County Fire Department is currently on the scene, and EMS is en route.
- The Sheriff’s Office urges everyone to take caution and evacuate the immediate area.
- For any inquiries, please contact the Reagan County Sheriff’s Office.

Today, during Police Memorial Week, we would like to honor one of our very own fallen officers, Deputy Josh Mitchell and the ultimate sacrifice he made.

Josh Mitchell began his career in law enforcement as a correctional officer and went on to become a Sheriff's Deputy for the Reagan County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Josh Mitchell was killed in the line of duty while contacting a subject regarding a criminal trespass issue on August 1, 2012. He proudly served over seven years with the Reagan County Sheriff's Office.

This office and the community of Big Lake will always remember Josh and honor him as the hero he is.

In honor of Police Memorial Week, we pause to reflect on the profound sacrifices made by our law enforcement officers. This week serves to honor those who have fallen in the line of duty, highlighting their unwavering commitment to protecting and serving our communities.

Did you know that the first National Police Week was established in 1962 by former President John F. Kennedy? Since then, the week surrounding May 15th has been designated as National Police Week to honor fallen officers and their families. Memorial services and events have been held across the country to pay tribute to those who have given their lives since 1962.

Together, we can honor their legacy and commitment to service.
