🍂 BIG ISLAND EMERGENCY CREW LEAF DAY FUNDRAISER 🍂

Mark your calendars for our annual Leaf Day Fundraiser on Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 8:00 AM until approximately 3:00–4:00 PM.

Our volunteers will be stationed at the intersection of Route 501 and Route 122 in Big Island collecting donations to help support the operations of the Big Island Emergency Crew.

As the leaves begin to change and fall arrives in Bedford County, Leaf Day has become a tradition that helps keep our volunteer emergency services running. Our crew responds to approximately 250–300 emergency calls each year, providing care and assistance to our community and surrounding areas.

You will see our emergency vehicles on location with warning lights activated to help alert drivers and ensure a safe fundraising event.

Every donation, no matter the amount, helps support equipment, training, medical supplies, and the continued operation of your local volunteer emergency crew.

Tomorrow September 5, 2026 we will be at H&H Store in Big Island starting at 10am selling raffle tickets, $10 each.
We will sell until 12 noon, and we will draw the three winners at 12 noon while we are at H&H Store. Come by the store at 12 noon and see if you will be one of the lucky winners!

Here is a glimpse of our department operating on a few of the calls for service so far in 2026. We have responded to over 200 calls so far this year. We hope you enjoy looking and know that this is your tax dollars being put to work. Thank you to our community for your continued support. Now Enrolling: Fall 2026 EMS Course! 🚑

Bedford County Department of Fire & Rescue is now accepting applications for the Fall 2026 EMS Course.

Classes will be held August 10 through November 18, every Monday and Wednesday from 6-9 p.m., at the Bedford County Department of Fire & Rescue, 1185 Turning Point Road.

This comprehensive course combines classroom instruction with hands-on training to prepare students with the knowledge and practical skills needed for emergency medical services.
