BOOK SALE is BACK at the Big Bear Lake Library! COME ON IN!

Some sad news. I just received news that Patricia Ransom passed on today. Many may remember that feisty red head at the circulation desk.
Pat worked for San Bernardino County Library for 40+ years before retiring to enjoy her cats and her books full time. Pat started with the Big Bear Branch when it was housed in a log cabin on Big Bear Blvd. She was involved in the library's move to the PAC building (in the cellar). One of her favorite stories was that during the 1992 earthquake, all of the books flew off the shelves and they had to remove the door to get in and clean up the mess! She then helped move the Branch to its current Garstin Dr location. Pat was locally known to all library patrons for her amazing reading and memory. She just flat out LOVED to read! She knew the preferences of all the regulars and would advise them about books. Anyone looking for a specific book title or subject, would go talk to Pat and she would point them in the right direction!
I think it's safe to say, Pat trained hundreds of new library employees, including me. She loved the Friends of the Library and was an avid supporter of book sales and the then Annual Book Auction. It was known, don't get into a bidding war against Pat...she'd win!
Pat also supported the Big Bear Library's Literacy Program and could always be seen on a spelling team during the annual Spell-a-Thon.
When Pat retired, she refused any kind of 'hoopla' (her word). She knew she was leaving the job of a lifetime and although she didn't really want to go, she knew it was time.
Patricia Ransom, here's to the many memories. Thank you for your mentorship, your friendship and your love of books and Big Bear Branch Library.
May you Rest in Peace Patricia Ransom. Your beloved Library lives on.
