rt but spectacular trail along the perimeter of the point providing rare public access to this stretch of the Maine Coast. A short out and back walk provides views of Wood Island’s light house, the rocky shore, and coastal habitat against the backdrop of both S**o Bay and the Gulf of Maine. Parking is very limited at the end of Lester B Orcutt Blvd along the shoulder with room for about 6 cars. The entrance is marked on the left as you face the water where there is a short right of way trail between and around private residences which takes you to the main sanctuary trail. We ask visitors to be respectful of all adjoining private land owners and the golf club while visiting this spectacular little sanctuary. Please be mindful of the path and possible eroded embankments, especially if you choose to veer onto the rocks at your own risk. A less obvious hazard is poison ivy, which flourishes on the point. Pets are not permitted in Maine Audubon wildlife sanctuaries.

‼️REMINDER‼️

TRAIL CLOSURE September 11 - 26 (weekdays only).

Non-native invasive plants threaten the wildlife and habitat at East Point Audubon Sanctuary. Maine Audubon has determined that removal is essential to the health of the landscape and is working to identify, remove, control, and manage invasive plants and revegetate with native plants, in order to restore and rebuild the natural biodiversity that supports the widest array of wildlife.

As this work continues, the trails and sanctuary will be closed on weekdays from September 11-26, 2025. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding with this work.

If you happen to be in the Biddeford Pool area, be sure to visit Maine Audubon's East Point Sanctuary and traverse over some brand new cedar bog bridging. The sanctuary received approximately 85 feet of new bridging to help folks avoid wet sections and provide better views of the scenic Wood Island Lighthouse. Major kudos to our Land Steward Liz Thibault and our seasonal stewardship assistant Anna Marden for helping to haul in 24 planks, 24 rounds, and drive in 88 spikes! This project was a gallant 2.5 day effort that will help enhance the visitor experience and protect the area from erosion.

Come visit this beautiful respite on the Maine shore.

You never know what you might find at East Point. On her latest trip, staff photographer Ariana van den Akker discovered this stone arch, carefully perched on a rock out among the waves. A small nod to Andy Goldsworthy perhaps?

East Point Audubon Sanctuary in Biddeford Pool is the southernmost Maine Audubon sanctuary. The short but beautiful trail provides views of Wood Island’s light house, the rocky shore, and coastal habitat against the backdrop of both S**o Bay and the Gulf of Maine. Bring binoculars for water and shore birds, find a sitting spot – there are benches along the path – and enjoy the spectacular views.
