Wayne Middle School's mascot changed from the Panthers to the Wolverines during the 1986-87 school year. Along with a new mascot, new school colors were in order: navy, maroon, and grey. Our own Nikki Jeffery Stringham was the student body president that year; how fitting that she is the principal the year we say goodbye to WMS and retire the Wolverine!

Last week, WMS students participated in the final Valentine's Tea. In honor of this, we looked back and found pictures from the first official Valentine's Tea. Held in 1979, the students played games, and the 8th-grade girls served refreshments. Beth Morrell, school historian, wrote about the 1980 Valentine Tea, "The 8th grade girls put on a Valentine's tea, they had punch, cookies, nox blox, and games. They fed all the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys. It was a lot of fun."
Forty-four years later, our Valentine's Tea is still a fun tradition.
