LABOR DAY: WHY WORK MATTERS

Happy Labor Day! Before we finish this day as just another day off for dove hunts (which I really enjoy), barbecues, sales at stores, I want to share an insight of why this day matters, not just as a holiday, but as a core value to life.

The Catholic Church has always taught that work isn’t just how we earn a living, it’s how we express our dignity as human beings. Pope Leo XIII wrote about this over a century ago in ‘Rerum Novarum’ stating that every worker deserves fair wages, safe conditions, and the chance to support one’s family.

Work isn’t just an economic transaction. It is dignity in action.

Here in Bexar County, that means honoring the men and women who show up every day, including but not limited to, our first responders, our military personnel, our small business owners, our tradesmen and women, our county employees. It means a government that respects their hard-earned tax dollars instead of wasting them.

That’s why I’m running for Bexar County Judge. I will bring fiscal accountability back to this county, to audit where our money goes, and to make sure the people who work hard here aren’t taken for granted by the people who are supposed to serve them.
