Jason Bauserman was a friend of the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike. An historian and citizen weather observer, his passion for the Bartow and Durbin areas was apparent to all he met. Jason will be remembered for his work in preserving the Durbin Jail as well as his portrayal of the Elder John Kline, a traveling Brethren minister.

Jason will be greatly missed! Rest in peace, friend.

Happy Birthday to Lemuel Chenoweth, born in Randolph County in 1811. Primarily known as a bridge builder, this self-taught architect built several structures on the National Register of Historic Places including the Philippi covered bridge, Tygart Valley Presbyterian Church, and the Barrickville covered bridge. The story goes that Lemuel won his bid to build bridges on the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike by standing on top of his scale model to demonstrate its effectiveness. The Beverly Heritage Center has several artifacts made by Lemuel on display including a model saw mill and a barn loom. You can also see his house that he built himself on our Historic Beverly Walking Tour.
