The City of Beverly Hills (City) has approved a new Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) with the Beverly Hills Unified School District (BHUSD) pending ratification by the Board of Education on May 26. The City and BHUSD have used the structure of joint power agreements dating back to 1977 for the purpose of outlining shared use of facilities, recreational programming, and technology support.

Under the new agreement, BHUSD will assume responsibility for several programs previously administered by the City, effective August 1, 2026, including all afternoon programming at BHUSD elementary schools and all City-run camps at District facilities. In addition, responsibility for the State-Licensed Preschool Program, currently administered by the City, will transition to BHUSD in Fall 2026.

The JPA includes nearly $39 million in City financial contributions to BHUSD over the three-year term of the agreement, including $13,750,000 for fiscal year 2026–27, $13,000,000 for fiscal year 2027–28, and $12,250,000 for fiscal year 2028–29.

The JPA includes a Memorandum of Understanding related to digital monitoring and broadcasting technology outlining the District’s responsibility regarding Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR), Unarmed Aircraft Systems Operations (Drone), and other security equipment. The agreement also memorializes the Beverly Hills Police Department’s continuous support to BHUSD through School Resource Officers and other technical support.

The Grand Lawn has always been a defining part of Beverly Hills High School.

Today, it opened again, this time with our students at the center.

During lunch, the Board of Education and City Council joined our entire student body to mark the moment, cutting the ribbon and celebrating the start of something new.

After years of planning, it now belongs to them.

The Manaster Family Instrumental Music Room at Beverly Hills High School marks a meaningful and lasting investment in our students and the future of music on campus.
This state of the art space features professional soundproofing, dedicated individual practice rooms, and a full ensemble area, giving students an environment to focus, refine, and perform together at an exceptional level.
The Beverly Hills Education Foundation hosted a dedication bringing together band students, BHUSD Board of Education members, BHEF leadership, and City officials, including Mayor Craig Corman. Three generations of band directors were in attendance, representing more than 50 years of Beverly Hills High School’s band tradition.
The Manaster family’s roots in this community run deep. Former Board of Education member Jake Manaster was recognized at the ribbon cutting, reflecting a continued commitment to supporting instrumental music at BHHS.
