Relentless police follow-up + technology = an arrest.

In July, a driver was captured on City CCTV cameras driving a vehicle recklessly and at dangerous speeds, putting others and their property at risk.

A Beverly Hills police officer conducted an extensive follow-up investigation, using technology, the Real Time Watch Center (RTWC), and investigative resources to identify the driver and build the case. The investigation ultimately led to an arrest warrant for the driver and a court order authorizing the vehicle’s 30-day impoundment.

The officer continued pursuing the case and recently located both the driver and the vehicle. The driver was arrested on the outstanding warrant, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Reckless driving has consequences. We will continue using every available resource to proactively address dangerous driving and keep Beverly Hills safe.

This National Forensic Science Week, we recognize the dedicated team whose work plays an important role in BHPD investigations.

Our forensic team includes the Property & Crime Lab Manager, Senior Forensic Specialists, and Forensic Volunteers. They work behind the scenes, but their results speak for themselves. Their work takes expertise, persistence, and incredible attention to detail. They provide critical leads for our investigators, answers for victims and families, and help bring cases to resolution.

Please join us in congratulating Kevin M. Orth on his promotion to Captain, effective September 19.

Captain Orth’s BHPD career spans 20 years, beginning as a Police Cadet in 2006. Since then, he has served throughout the Department in a wide range of operational and leadership roles, most recently as Executive Officer in the Office of the Chief.

As Captain, he will lead the Administrative Services Division, overseeing Personnel & Training, Records, Communications, and the Department’s Budget Team.

Congratulations, Captain Orth, on this well-earned promotion and the next chapter of your service to BHPD and the Beverly Hills community.

As Rosh Hashanah begins, the Beverly Hills Police Department wishes our Jewish community a happy, peaceful, and meaningful New Year.

Today, the Beverly Hills community came together to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, their families, and the first responders who answered the call.

The morning began at 6:45 a.m. with a solemn gathering of Beverly Hills Fire Department, Beverly Hills Police Department, and City personnel, including the traditional ringing of the bell and a moment of silence.

At 8:45 a.m., we joined Beverly Hills High School’s private ceremony that gave students an opportunity to hear the stories, understand the sacrifices made that day, and reflect on why we continue to remember 25 years later. For these students, September 11 is a part of history they did not personally experience. Ceremonies like this help ensure that its impact, its lessons, and the people we lost are never forgotten.

At 11:00 a.m., the City of Beverly Hills welcomed the community to come together in remembrance and unity.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember where we were. We remember those who never came home. We remember those who ran toward danger to help others. And we remember the countless lives that were forever changed.

Twenty-five years have passed, but we will never forget.
