Hope in a Suitcase is a new non-profit in Los Angeles and our singular goal is to help support children in foster care.

“My foster youth and his siblings loved the (back-to-school shopping) event. He said it was so much fun, and he has never been treated so well before. He loves sports so his favorite part was receiving a jersey. The kids have unstable housing and are used to being deprived and going hungry. For one day, they were able to feel good having options of clothes to pick from and sufficient supplies for school. Due to chronic homelessness, the child is used to feeling like he is constantly in a state of losing homes, school, and friends. This event gave him materials to help him feel secure and well cared for as he starts the new school year. The hygiene supplies make than all feel clean, healthy, and excited to return to school. You gave these kids hope that life will get better.”

We appreciate everyone who supports our mission, and then there is Roquesa, who lives it.

Roquesa Brown-Jordan has opened her home to more than 50 children in foster care, providing emergency and respite placements when kids needed somewhere safe to land. She and her husband also adopted their two children through foster care 💙

And somehow, she still has plenty of energy left for us.

Roquesa serves on the Hope in a Suitcase Board of Directors, bringing invaluable firsthand perspective to everything we do. She also works with Dimondale Adolescent , supporting youth with significant needs throughout Los Angeles County.

Our relationship with Roquesa actually started years ago at one of our early Shopping Days. Today, she is still showing up — often alongside her daughter, one of our amazing teen volunteers — bringing the kind joyful energy and enthusiasm that makes every event better.

And the partnership has grown right along with her.

Through our work with Dimondale, we’ve hosted their teens at our Self Care events, provided holiday gifts, and this year opened a Hope Closet at one of their facilities stocked with duffel bags, clothing and hygiene essentials. Already, more than 250 youth have received items through that closet.

Roquesa has said that kindness is a superpower.

After watching her open her home, give her time, share her experience, raise the next generation of volunteers, and keep showing up for kids year after year…

We think she might be living proof. 💥❤️

BIG THANK YOU goes to Elise Weinberg for being a stalwart supporter of foster youth, and for celebrating her birthday by recruiting 7 friends to volunteer for our event 🙌 It was hot but she and her friends showed up with smiles and enthusiasm for our youth, helping us to serve 275 kiddos in one day! ☀️

THANK YOU, , for helping us provide beauty products to more than 350 teens (and counting!) at our events. 💄✨

Everything has been a huge hit! Teens especially loved the foundations, loose powders, and bronzer sticks. We’re so grateful for the incredible range of shades, which allowed our volunteers to help each teen find a great match—so everyone left with a foundation that worked for them.

For many of these teens, this was their very first makeup experience. Your generous donation is giving them the chance to explore, experiment, and develop their own style as they head into new schools and new social circles with a little extra confidence.

THANK YOU to all who donated SHOES for our ongoing events leading up to the new school year.

Oftentimes, children entering foster care, by no fault of their own, have only the clothing on their backs and sometimes that is pjs and slippers. THANKS TO OUR DONORS, several hundred children will have fresh kicks of their own choosing that fit and are on trend 👏👏👏 New shoes help ALL kids to feel confident and to avoid bullying. Thank you, donors!!!

Hey! We will need to reload for the holidays, so consider hosting a company wide shoe drive or a jacket drive with your book club or cocktail party. Sumthin like that! We serve thousands of kids each year who are in desperate need of new clothes, shoes, and hygiene products. And guess what? We are a 501(c)3 non profit if you just wanna write a check and have us do the purchasing. We are a small yet mighty group of mostly volunteers, and all of our donor dollars go to our mission.

THANK YOU to We Benefit Children for supporting our event we hosted with Make Good, Inc over the weekend.

We Benefit Children provided funds for backpacks and school supplies for over 275 kiddos, and they also sent awesome volunteers to help distribute them! 👏👏👏

Every child deserves to feel confident with brand new school items and fresh threads to start their year. Thank you to We Benefit Children for helping to make that happen for some of the most in need children and teens in our city.

It was HOT today, but our intrepid volunteers came through with smiles and warm enthusiasm for our shoppers at our # serving 275 children! Big thank you to our esteemed partner Make Good, Inc for supplying every child with back packs, school supplies, and new books.

We will be serving at least 100 more children and teens aMwho could not make this event. It is so important that kids get to start the new year with new clothes that make them feel confident and prevent them from being bullied. Thank you to all of our donors who make this work possible 🙏

‼️SHOES NEEDED‼️ We serve hundreds of the most in need children and teens in Los Angeles for this season, and we need shoes.

HELP US TO HELP ➡️ easy SHOE DRIVE REGISTRY link in profile with shoes ranging from $35-70 each. Buy a pair for your child and buy a pair for another child who finds themselves with a lot of odds stacked against them. A new pair of shoes can help them feel confident and avoid bullying in a new school.
