An armed barricaded suspect was arrested by Beverly Hills Police after firing a handgun while officers were only feet away in the hotel hallway.
Beverly Hills, Calif. – On Thursday, February 1, 2024, at approximately 9:39 a.m., Beverly Hills Police Officers responded to a local hotel in the city. Hotel security believed a guest might be armed. Before BHPD arrived, hotel security knocked on the door and heard someone yell, “I’m going to shoot through the door!”
Officers arrived on scene and spoke with hotel Security and responded towards the room in question. A team of officers was established to guard the room door, while other officers assisted in evacuating guests from nearby rooms. Although officers could not see inside the room, the sound of the suspect firing rounds from his handgun was heard from the officers’ location in the hallway.
The BHPD drone responded and observed the suspect with a firearm in his hand on the hotel balcony. Additional BHPD assets, including Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) personnel, Crisis Negotiation (CNT) personnel, detectives, and mutual aid resources, responded. The BHPD Real Time Watch Center constantly monitored the suspect.
As resources began to arrive on the scene and crisis negotiators prepared to establish communication with the suspect, officers requested the suspect exit his room unarmed. He complied, and he was safely taken into custody. There were no reports of any injuries.
The investigation determined the suspect was a convicted felon and had fired several rounds within his hotel room.
This is a prime example of the dangers your BHPD officers face while bravely protecting everyone in the City of Beverly Hills.
