Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, and the City of Beverly Hills along with the Beverly Hills Fire Department and Beverly Hills Police Department honored the lives lost, remembered the heroes who responded with courage and sacrifice, and stood in solidarity with the families whose lives were forever changed by 9/11.

The event included a flyover, color guards, wreath dedication, remembrance speeches by family members of fallen victims, and other honorable mentions near our own Beverly Hills 9/11 Memorial Garden. Earlier this morning, the City Council gathered with emergency personnel to commemorate the anniversary at the same time as the events unfolded on the East Coast 25 years ago.

Thank you, Mayor Corman, City Council, the Beverly Hills Fire Department, the Beverly Hills Police Department, City staff, Beverly Hills residents, and guests for attending and recognizing such a significant day in our history.

UPDATE 4:30 pm: Rexford Drive is now open. Please use caution as fire crews remain in the area.

UPDATE 12:45 pm: The Beverly Hills Fire Department has declared a knockdown and the fire is under control. Two firefighters have been transported to Cedars-Sinai, one for heat exhaustion and one for a minor burn. Crews are expected to remain on scene for several hours. School pickup at Beverly Vista Middle School will not be affected. Rexford between Charleville and Gregory remains closed.

11:51 a.m. At approximately 10:30 a.m. this morning, the Beverly Hills Fire Department responded to a fire at a two-story apartment complex in the 200 block of S. Rexford Dr. Most of the building was engulfed at the time. Neighboring buildings adjacent to the blaze were evacuated. As firefighters attacked the fire, the roof began collapsing, so firefighters retreated and are using area ladder trucks to battle the blaze. There are no injuries reported. Out of an abundance of caution, students at nearby Beverly Vista Middle School are under a shelter in place order. Los Angeles County Fire is also assisting on scene. Rexford Drive between Charleville and Gregory Way is currently closed.
