Charge into Fire Safety: 3 Steps

1) Buy only listed products.
When buying a product that uses a lithium-ion battery look for a safety certification mark such as UL, ETL, or CSA. This means it meets important safety standards.

2) Charge devices safely.
Always use the cords that came with the product to charge. Follow the instructions from the manufacturer. Buy new chargers from the manufacturer or one that the manufacturer has approved. Charge your device on a hard surface. Don’t overcharge your device. Unplug it or remove the battery when it’s fully charged.

3) Recycle batteries responsibly.
Don’t throw lithium-ion batteries in the trash or regular recycling bins because they could start a fire. Recycle your device or battery at a safe battery recycling location. Visit call2recycle.org to find a recycling spot near you.

Are you and your loved ones prepared for a major emergency or disaster?

In a major disaster, Fire and Police Departments may be delayed in their response, it may take up to 72 hours for medical care response, depending on the severity of the event or events.

Is your family ready to handle any situation that you may face like a gas leak, small fire, major injury, or structure collapse? These are some of the incidents you may experience in a disaster.

What if someone on your block was trained to help bring families and neighbors together in an emergency?

Maybe you want to be that person.

WHAT IS COMMUNITY CONNECT?

We are always looking for ways to better serve the citizens of Beverly Hills. For this reason we are rolling out a new program to protect our residents and their property in the most effective way possible. Community Connect is a free, secure, and easy to use platform that allows you to share critical information about your household that will aid first responders and emergency response personnel when responding to your residence. By providing information about your household that you feel is important for us to know about at the time of an emergency, we can ensure you and everything you care about is protected to the best of our ability.
