Joint training with our Davenport Fire Department neighbors at the Bettendorf Training Center over the last couple days. Live fire training with the topic being garage fires. Crews stretched hose lines, searched, and drilled on forcible entry and ladder placement. After finishing the last scenario of the day, BFD was dispatched for a structure fire on 53rd St.(last pic). On Monday, May 25, 2026, at 12:41 p.m., the Bettendorf Fire Department (BFD) was dispatched to a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found active fire on the exterior front side of the home, along with a fully engulfed shed on that same side.
The first-arriving engine companies quickly extinguished the exterior fire and made entry into the home, where they pulled ceilings to access the attic. The fire in the attic was extinguished, and portions of the soffit and siding were opened to check for remaining hot spots. Fire crews then conducted salvage and overhaul operations in the area of origin inside the home to make sure there was no further fire extension.
One occupant was home at the time of the incident and ensured that the family dog got outside safely. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for evaluation of heat exhaustion as a precaution and is reported to be doing well. No civilian injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No further information on the fire or the firefighter is being released at this time.

Last week, the MABAS Division 43 Hazmat Team trained on propane flaring. Training was focused on the special hazards propane can present and how to mitigate those hazards. A propane flare kit can be used to offload a leaking or damaged propane cylinder in order to eliminate further damage to health or property. Special thanks to Todd Meyer of the Gas Equipment Company for teaching and River Valley Coop for providing the propane for training use.

Thankfully, all of the occupants, including a dog, made it out of the home with no issues. Our crews extinguished the fire and prevented any extension into the house.
