📈WHAT THE STUDIES TELL US 📈

📊Rigorous, independent research proves that numbers on the apparatus directly translate to lives saved:

The NIST Landmark Study: Controlled live-burn research by the National Institute of Standards and Technology demonstrated that larger crews complete critical fireground tasks up to 30% faster than understaffed teams.

The FSRI Health & Safety Study: Research by the Fire Safety Research Institute confirms that the 4-person baseline is a floor, not a ceiling. Moving to a 5-person model dramatically reduces extreme physical exhaustion, limits rapid fire growth, and minimizes toxic gas exposures.

Real-World Performance Outcomes: Field simulations evaluating engine crew sizes showed that adding personnel yields an 11% faster time to put water on the fire, a 27% faster victim removal time, and a staggering 74% improvement in establishing a reliable water supply.

Happy Memorial Day 🇺🇸

05/25/2026

Today we remember Honorary Deputy Chief Joseph Dunn and Honorary Deputy Chief Robert Hassett. On this date in 1978, the Bethpage Fire Department was alerted for a building fire at the Brothers 3 Pool Supply store on Hempstead Turnpike. While operating several chlorine drums ignited causing the crew of 904 to become separated from the hose line. It was determined that Captain Joseph Dunn and Firefighter Robert Hassett were missing. Originally both men were thought to have been transported to the hospital but after checking with the local hospitals a search of the fire building was conducted. Both men were found arm and arm together in the building. This event was the first Line of Duty Death in the departments History. Since 1978, the department continues to remember these two men and the legacy that they left. Every year on the Sunday before Memorial Day the Department members travel to both grave sites to say a prayer and to salute both men. We will never forget Bobby and Joe. May you continue to rest in peace.
