Team members from our Philadelphia locations recently collaborated to organize a Community Baby Shower at our 2112 Ridge Avenue location! Spearheaded by Program Coordinator Shakari Pennington, this event was a direct reflection of Ridge Avenue’s mission of ensuring every young person belongs to a nurturing community, including transition-age youth who are balancing the unique challenges of early parenthood.

Shakari collaborated closely with VYH teams at the Achieving Independence Center and 1880 JFK Boulevard locations to collect significant donations to equip new and expecting parents with essential supplies like clothes, bottles, and diapers alongside light refreshments.

More importantly, by providing direct linkages to the Philadelphia Family Resource Directory and creating a space where youth can engage resources for their advancement towards their goals, Shakari and our VYH Philly teams reinforced the stability and self-sufficiency at the heart of the Ridge Avenue program.

We recently held our RECORD BREAKING 8th Annual Southeast PA Golf Tournament at the Union League National Golf Course in Cape May, New Jersey! This event raised $446,222, the highest total ever raised by a Valley Youth House fundraising event, for youth experiencing homelessness in the Southeast region of Pennsylvania, covering Philadelphia county, as well as Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware counties.

This event, chaired by Thomas Holt, Jr. of our presenting sponsor Holt Logistics Corp, also gave us the privilege of honoring The Yoh Family and Day & Zimmermann.

The success of this tournament is thanks in large part to the hard work, stewardship, and dedication of our golf committee. This has not gone unnoticed; the committee was recently nominated for and won the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraising Group award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)’s Philadelphia Chapter. The committee has raised over $2.2 million in the 8 years of the tournament and will be recognized at a reception with the AFP in November.

And of course, no Valley Youth House event would be complete without the honor of hearing from one of the young people who has been affected by our services. This year, we welcomed Jamel, who graciously agreed to share his journey with tournament attendees.

It truly was an incredible event and it wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of individuals and sponsors who contribute their time and philanthropic support to the over 85 life-saving programs offered by Valley Youth House.

We were lucky enough to participate in Dorney Park’s Day of Giving! This day gave free admission into the park through local nonprofits, giving families a chance to enjoy a fun filled day at Dorney while highlighting the missions of vital Lehigh Valley organizations. We were privileged to provide families and youth served by Valley Youth House a day to enjoy the park and connect with each other.

We are humbled to announce that we have been recently awarded a substantial $767,855 grant from the William Penn Foundation to strengthen both our housing and homelessness prevention programs for young families across Philadelphia.

Distributed over a three-year period, the funding will directly support our services tailored to parents aged 24 and younger who are currently engaged with the organization’s outreach and housing access initiatives. It will allow us to expand our capacity to deliver immediate financial assistance, case management, and wraparound services designed to mitigate factors that contribute to housing insecurity.
