Welcome to the official Steel Battalion Army ROTC page! "Forged in Fire" . Army or Department of Defense.

Lehigh University is the host school for the Steel Battalion, with military science instruction conducted primarily at Lehigh University and some courses also available at Lafayette College and Kutztown University, Berks. Enrollment in to the Steel Battalion is open to students of all LVAIC schools in the Lehigh Valley. Students must be enrolled full-time in one of eleven nearby institutions and s

till participate in Army ROTC through Lehigh University.

The Steel Battalion stays elite! 🙌

Congratulations to CDT Zach Ironside on his completion of the 28-day Sapper Leader Course located at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. This physically and mentally demanding course tests a soldier’s knowledge of combat engineering, patrolling and mountaineering.

We would also like to congratulate Moravian alum 1LT Connor Houghton ‘24 (second photo; right) who also completed the course! 1LT Houghton is a previous Steel Battalion Commander and participated in Ranger Challenge. He currently serves in the 10th Mountain Division. 🏔️

It may be considered the "toughest 10 days in the Army," but for CDT Leo Quaranta, Air Assault was a breeze!

Not only did CDT Quaranta earn the coveted Air Assault Badge, he had a perfect GPA 💯 and was named Honor Graduate of Class AAS 505-26. 🚁 Congratulations CDT Quaranta! We're so proud!

Senior Spotlight ‼️‼️

Cadet Dillon is a recent graduate from Moravian University with a degree in Environmental/Military Science. He will be joining the Army as an Air Defense Artillery Officer in the National Guard. Here is what he has to say about his time in ROTC:

What is your favorite memory as a cadet in the steel battalion?

- “Building bonds with fantastic leaders and pushing each other to our limits”.

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned as a cadet?

- “When you find yourself in the suck, there are only two things you can do: laugh about it or cry about it. False Motivation is just as good as Real Motivation”.

What are you most looking forward to about your future as an Army officer?

- “I'm most looking forward to leading soldiers, learning from them, and watching myself and my troops grow together”.

Senior Spotlight‼️‼️

Cadet Spera is a recent graduate from Lafayette College with degrees in Geology and German with a minor in Environmental Studies. She will be joining the Army as an Active Duty Engineer Officer. She is Air Assault and Rappel Master qualified, and attended ProjectGO studying Swahili in East Africa. She also interned at European Command in Stuttgart, Germany. Here is what she has to say about her time in ROTC:

What is your favorite memory as a cadet in the steel battalion?

- “Being encouraged by my team during rucks to push myself the furthest I ever have physically and mentally also getting breakfast or dinner after and our team bonding nights. In the process I’ve made lifelong friends who have mentored me and changed my life. I wouldn’t be here without them!”

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned as a cadet?

- “Our failures lead to our successes. Get back up because real courage is continuing through fear.”

What are you most looking forward to about your future as an Army officer?

- “Helping and leading others. Also do some cool stuff to contribute to the future Mom Lore.”

Kent is a recent graduate from DeSales University with a degree in History. He will be joining the Army as an Active Duty Infantry Officer. He is Air Assault qualified, and has earned his silver GAFB and Bronze Norwegian Foot March. Here is what he has to say about his time in ROTC:

What is your favorite memory as a cadet in the steel battalion?

“Basic Camp and Air Assault”.

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned as a cadet?

“That a good enough plan executed today is better than a perfect plan executed tomorrow”.

What are you most looking forward to about your future as an Army officer?

“Being a Platoon Leader”
