🌱 Spring & Summer Watershed Tips

πŸ’§ Pick Up Pet Waste
Pet waste left on the ground can wash into storm drains and local waterways. Always bag it and dispose of it properly.

🌼 Plant Native Species
Native plants require less water and fertilizer, help prevent erosion, and provide habitat for pollinators and wildlife.

πŸš— Wash Your Car Wisely
Wash vehicles on grass or gravel whenever possible. This allows water to filter into the ground instead of carrying soap and pollutants into storm drains.

🌧️ Only Rain Down the Drain
Storm drains flow directly to local streams and rivers. Never dump grass clippings, chemicals, paint, oil, or other materials into storm drains.

🌿 Leave Grass Clippings on the Lawn
Grass clippings can act as a natural fertilizer and help retain moisture. Keep them out of streets and storm drains.

🌻 Create a Rain Garden
Rain gardens help capture stormwater runoff, reduce flooding, and improve water quality while adding beauty to your landscape.

🚲 Reduce Vehicle Use
Walking, biking, carpooling, or combining trips helps reduce air pollution that can eventually impact waterways.

πŸ¦‹ Protect Pollinators
Avoid using pesticides when possible and provide native flowering plants to support bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.

🏑 Direct Downspouts onto Lawns or Gardens
Allow rainwater to soak into the ground rather than flow directly into streets and storm drains.

🌳 Maintain Stream Buffers
Trees and vegetation along streams help filter pollutants, stabilize banks, reduce erosion, and provide wildlife habitat.

πŸ”₯ Conserve Water During Hot Weather
Water lawns and gardens early in the morning to reduce evaporation and use rain barrels to collect water for outdoor use.

🌊 Keep Waterways Clean
Whether you're fishing, kayaking, hiking, or picnicking, take all trash home and leave waterways cleaner than you found them.

Remember:

What happens on the land affects our streams, rivers, and groundwater. Small actions at home can make a big difference for our watershed! πŸ’™πŸŒŽ

Β· A drought watch has been lifted for 22 counties.

Lower Saucon Authority crews will be opening hydrants and flushing mains for two weeks starting Tuesday, April 7. This is part of our normal preventative maintenance on the system, and is done to remove accumulated sediment. It is the water system's equivalent of a "Spring Cleaning".

As the water will often be briefly discolored ("rusty") during this process, customers should avoid running water or especially doing laundry on the day their area is being flushed. Iron and manganese, which are in the oxide scales which are being removed, can cause staining of laundry under the right conditions.

See the Laundry Tips section ( https://lowersauconauthority.org/information/laundry-tips/ ) on our website if you inadvertently draw discolored water into your washing machine during the flush, or contact us at 610-317-3212. Do not dry or bleach affected laundry if that occurs, as these actions can help to set the stain.

Customers for whom we have a current phone number will be called the evening before by our automated phone messaging service (OneCallNow) and reminded that their area will be flushed the following day. If you are not sure that we have your current number, call Emily (Ext 2) or Stacey (Ext 3) at 610-317-3212 and they will update our records. Or, you can simply click on the update on our homepage to send us an e-mail update.

The following will be flushed on Monday, 4/20/26:
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS (all streets) and SEIDERSVILLE RD.

This will complete our Spring flushing!
