New research in Nature Medicine featuring NINDS funded clinical testing highlights the promise of a more targeted approach to treating myasthenia gravis.

Two complementary studies report that a short course of a novel RNA-based CAR-T cell therapy led to durable clinical improvement in people with generalized myasthenia gravis—without the broad immune suppression often associated with conventional CAR-T treatments. The outpatient therapy was associated with sustained symptom improvement while preserving the protective immune response.

These findings advance our understanding of how precision cell therapies may offer safer, more accessible treatment options for myasthenia gravis and other neurological autoimmune disorders.

3rd Semi-Annual PURPOSE Meeting

The NIH and the NIH HEAL Initiative are excited to invite you to the third semi-annual PURPOSE Meeting, taking place March 22 & 23, 2026. The PURPOSE meeting offers opportunities for learning, networking, and collaboration for pain researchers across the continuum of basic, translational, and clinical research - and connect them with NIH Program Officers and mentors outside of their home institutions.

This year’s meeting is being held in conjunction with the USASP Early Career Forum, preceding the USASP Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.

When:
- March 22, 2026: Interdisciplinary PAIN Cohort Meeting (T90/R90, T32s, and other trainees)
- March 23, 2026: PURPOSE Annual Meeting & USASP Early Career Forum

Did you know? NINDS F32 applications do not require preliminary data! In fact, NINDS strongly discourages preliminary data in the program announcement. Rather, applications should focus on innovative research ideas and thoughtful plans for training and mentorship. The next due date is Feb 9, 2026.

In April 2024, NINDS brought together stakeholders to evaluate the gap between the current understanding of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and the development of therapeutics for treating PD. The report from the workshop is officially published!

The workshop identified key scientific and translational priorities needed to advance disease-modifying therapies for Parkinson’s disease. Areas of focus may include improving understanding of disease heterogeneity, strengthening biomarker development, refining therapeutic target validation, and best practices for therapeutic development.

This roadmap, for and from the PD community, highlights opportunities to better align research efforts and accelerate progress toward more effective treatments for people living with Parkinson’s disease.

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) invites you to the kick-off of a new Preclinical Common Data Elements (CDE)/Data Standards Webinar Series on January 28, 2026.

This interactive monthly series will highlight current efforts in preclinical CDEs and data standards. Speakers from the NT-PRECEDS Program and invited experts will share best practices, tools, and resources to help harmonize and strengthen preclinical research.

Topics will include:
- Experimental design, rigor, and reproducibility
- Metadata, data repositories, and best practices for data sharing
- Injury models, EEG and seizures, biomarkers, and -omics
- Histopathology, imaging, and related data standards

The series supports FAIR and TRUST data sharing principles and aligns with the NIH Strategic Plan and Data Management and Sharing Policy—aiming to improve reproducibility and cross-study analysis.

The webinars are free and open to the public.
