14APR26: ADVISORY: As part of our annual Hurricane Exercises this week, NSAB will conduct a Traffic Control Exercise on Thursday, April 16 from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. during normal afternoon departures.

The purpose of this exercise is to “train like we fight” in managing traffic during an installation evacuation.

During severe weather events, evacuations may be called for before the arrival of expected dangerous conditions. NSA Bethesda personnel and tenants should be familiar with executing a controlled departure.

What you need to know:

1.) This is NOT a real-world evacuation. The installation is not executing a simultaneous evacuation of the entire installation, and tenants are expected to operate as usual. Our Navy Security Forces personnel will simply redirect normal afternoon departures as they would if an evacuation was taking place.

2.) Drivers may be redirected to gates they would not normally choose. Drivers should familiarize themselves with alternate routes outside the installation to get where they need to be if they are sent to a gate that is not part of their daily commute.

3.) Gate 4 will be open during this exercise as part of the Traffic Control plan.

4.) Backups and delays are possible; we are not encouraging any severe changes in routine departure times. Overcorrecting and trying to leave too early may only create the backups drivers are trying to avoid. This is a training exercise, and part of training is identifying how the plan works in less urgent circumstances. Observations made will be taken back to the Emergency Management and Navy Security Forces teams.

5.) Follow all directions. Do not argue with or impede the personnel directing traffic.

Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated.

As part of Hurricane Exercises 2026, NSA Bethesda is practicing setting Tropical Cyclone Conditions of Readiness (TCCOR) and preparing for extreme weather (winds, heavy rainfall, flooding, etc.) On Monday, Naval District Washington directed the setting of TCCOR IV.

EXERCISE — NOT A REAL‑WORLD EVENT

🌪️ HURREX/CG26

In this HURREX scenario, NDW simulated setting all installations to TCCOR 4 — possible destructive winds indicated within 72 hours.

We’re practicing installation readiness, but please also review your home preparedness. If TCCOR 4 were real, recommended actions include:

➡️Non‑perishable food & water (1 gal/person/day, 3–7 days)
➡️Flashlights, extra batteries, battery/hand‑crank radio
➡️Refill prescriptions; charge power banks/phones
➡️Secure outdoor items; fill vehicle gas tanks
➡️Review your family emergency plan and evacuation routes

***HURREX/CG trains the Navy to respond to severe weather while maintaining deployable readiness. Stay informed and be prepared.

20MAR26: NSA Bethesda Public Works will perform a basewide steam and chilled water outage beginning 8 am, Saturday, March 21 and ending around 8 am, Sunday, March 22. Domestic water will be available, however, multiple buildings will be impacted by a loss of steam, hot water, and A/C. Sinks and toilets will still function. This single outage will address multiple required maintenance tasks to reduce the need for additional outages. We appreciate your patience and will restore service as quickly as possible once all work is completed.
