• Pioneered and continues to promote an interdisciplinary approach to women’s health research.
• Developed and continues to lead initiatives to advance women in biomedical careers.
• Encourages analyses and reporting of s*x differences and similarities in basic science research.
• Disseminates women’s health research information to scientists and to the public.

Chronic pain affects approximately 100 million Americans, costing up to $635 billion in medical treatment and lost productivity, and producing immeasurable suffering for people of every age.Yet, pain treatment isn't taught extensively in many health professional schools. Now, ORWH and nine other NIH offices are helping to change that with The National Institutes of Health Pain Consortium, which has selected 11 health professional schools as designated Centers of Excellence in Pain Education (CoEPEs).

These centers will act as hubs to develop, evaluate, and distribute pain management curriculum resources. Learn more about this new NIH Pain Consortium here: http://painconsortium.nih.gov/index.html
